  1. Good news for Titans opponents for rest of the season…Titans are mailing it in. A truly shocking performance today. I was going to say shocking effort but the spellchecker wont permit ‘Titans’ and ‘effort’ in the same sentence.
  2. Are you listening IMG……..fans wanting to pay money to attend games but turned away. How many points does that lose you on the grading algorithm?
  3. If the roosters played in the CFL they would be the Argos. Beware the mighty tiger cats!
  4. NWC supporters deserve a medal for sticking with the club. How can the club expect to develop a fan base when they cannot confirm where games will be played and the programme of home games becomes a roadshow. Folks will be put off buying season tickets given the uncertainties over where games will be played. I know its not only NWC fans who face this. Its a shame because NWC tend to have ‘fought above their weight’ for many seasons.
  5. When I read the title I thought they were getting involved in promoting the forthcoming Rochdale Hornets v Oldham King Cotton derby game.
  6. I dont disagree….I didnt say they dont exist….they are wrongly described as minimum since they are not required to be part of the league. Maybe desired or wishful would be better terms.
  7. If the minimum standards dont have to be met then they are not minimum standards.
  8. mmmmmm! Looks like we will need to win 4 of 5…..so one of hunslet and oldham will have to be beaten. Also a bit nervous about the last game at Cornwall…..long way at end of season…..will we see players being unavailable’ I wonder.
  9. But he wasnt cutting it at Melbourne any more and there wasnt a queue of teams down under throwing offers his way. He was finished as an NRL level player and chose to move to SL.
  10. They would be competitive at the top end. The full time status would make a big difference given the Q cup teams are predominantly part time. There is also a big difference between top and bottom of the Q. Ipswich, who not so long ago were a strong team year after year ( then affiliated to broncos) are very poor and are flogged on a weekly basis. They would probably struggle in the championship.
  11. He made the subs bench in the preliminary final and Grand Final.
  12. And as a result of his performances he was sent down to easts at the business end of the season and not offered a new contract.
  13. He was at Easts struggling to make the starting line up in 2018. Went from there to Catalans
  14. Attendences used to be much bigger. The difference with UK lower tiers is QRL is now a feeder league affiliated to be NRLs development home. so while there used to be top class players in the Brisbane league (Miles, Lewis, Meninga etc) that is no longer the case…you see blokes who go on to become stars….scott drinkwater tore the league up a few seasons ago…but they are soon promoted to parent club. On the other hand there are some players who struggle to hold their place in the QRL who move to England to become SL stars. One rather large Warrington forward comes to mind!
  15. Yes, it will be interesting to see if any of our squad are ‘unavailable’ for that one.
  16. If you wait long enough you will probably getthebest seats in the house discounted. I am sure IMG will sort it out…..well no I am not. Too busy fine tuning the promotion and relegation algorithm.
  17. That why they are called the good old days
  18. Yes happened to me a few years ago. Visiting from Overseas and headed to SF at Warrington to find no tickets available on the day. Fortunately an old buddy of mine was working as volunteer at club entrance and got me a free ticket…so that was 25 quid the game lost.
  19. Last game of season, nothing to play for, longest trip of the season, ……. I am not looking forward to that one.
  20. Bishop park has two small covered stands along one side (opposite the hill). The Leagues club is at the other side of the car park so not physically part of the ground. Piggabeen has a large concrete seating area which is covered at the back/top. Although Davies Park has no covered seating (other then inside the leagues club which overlooks the playing field) it does have bleacher type seating along one side of the field.
  21. Nowt quite like a day out to southport….in this case the Southport Tigers in the Gold Coast league. And as a lad from Rochdale I always dreamed of seeing Hornets play down under…and today it happened…the opposition was Helensvale Hornets. Helensvale and Southport are neighbouring communities in the City of Gold Coast. Southport has a long history, well appointed ground with covered seating and a leagues club. They play as you would guess in ’Balmain colours’…..orange shirts with black V and black shorts. They are currently top of the 6 team league. Helensvale are sort of the poor relations, sitting bottom of the league with just one win from 12 games. They play in bottle green and black shirts….and wait for it….its biggest claim to fame is its railway station…..on the Gold Coast line from Brisbane with a connecting tram that serves the gold coast beach communities. Southport dressed two players with top class experience…former Penrith Panther and Bulldog Sione Katoa and Cheyse Blair ( of course they would have to dress a real (castleford) tiger!). Southport are scoring an average 60 points a game with an 11-1 record. The Hornets are conceding an average of 60 points a game with a 1-11 record. So of course Helensvale would come out and take a 12-0 lead. Southport game back to win 60-24…so I suppose you could say the game was average. No team sheet or programme. $7 admission ($5 concession) kids free. Crowd probably around 4-500. A lovely winters afternoon at Southport…unless you are an Hornets fan.
  22. There is another thread on the general rugby league forum titled where did you go in 2023 which carried on the theme.
  23. No need for them, the bus drivers have better eyesight than the referees.
