  1. Indeed. They had a chance to go up the next season and blew it. And, to repeat, thirty years on, it’s an excuse not a reason. There’s not so much water under a bridge as a whole new bridge to talk about.
  2. From the outside looking in, this is very much the answer.
  3. And yet, as I point out every time, their crowds went up the following year and they were there or thereabouts for a few seasons after. Thirty years ago - that’s an excuse not a reason for how they are now.
  4. If you go to the Sofascore site now and click back to yesterday, the league is now correctly marked as Rhinos Challenge.
  5. Nope. It is exactly an issue that actual journalists should be looking into as it could actually be significant.
  6. I didn’t have the team names when I looked.
  7. Not sure why the scores would be showing up but is it the Rhinos Challenge thing that @Just Brownyhas posted about on another thread?
  8. This was the Rhinos I was thinking of: https://sarugbyleague.co.za/rhino-cup/ I'll look into those team names ... interesting!
  9. It’s not about retail versus what it costs to make. I’ll restate my point: RL fans are brilliant at supporting businesses who support RL. In this one specific case, I would suggest that they give careful consideration before doing so.
  10. NRL socials say an announcement due on May 14th
  11. South African. If you go to the South Africa Rugby League page (phone not letting me copy and paste) there are some scores on there.
  12. If we assume the watches are worth the £2,000 they claim to be (they're not) then even if all they are being is freebies for Player of the Match then that's six grand's worth of support.
  13. BBC live text as well as live streaming https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/live/cy5rz1rvvz3t
  14. I think we're hoping there will be a World Cup next year. There's qualifiers for it and everything going on.
  15. Context and connection are key. But traditional counties are not 'natural'. They're as much made up lines on maps as anything else. I love borders, boundaries, quirky little exclaves and all that - but nobody should take them too seriously. That way madness and beliefs about blood and soil lie.
  16. "Hastings, it's a town on the south coast if you draw a straight line down from London"
  17. They'd absolutely be all over women's RL if the RFL/whoever fed them what they need. The silence around the game is entirely of the sport's own doing.
  18. No, you've very clearly and obviously stated that in most cases, across England as much as just Lancashire, it's an identification with a city/town/borough that comes (well) ahead of county. People can identify how they like, of course, but I do find weird the idea that specific lines on maps (made up counties given to a duke in return for fealty) are natural and binding but other specific lines on maps (administrative areas drawn up to link places with similar needs and requirements within a specified population range) are not.
  19. That is the reality that ends the conversation. There wasn't one this season, there won't be one next season.
  20. A random list on wiki has some names, could probably do with tidying up a bit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NRL_Western_Australia#Notable_WARL_juniors_competed_in_the_NRL_and_NRLW
  21. You found the same bits I did then. Nice to see someone supporting RL and, hopefully, it's money coming in but tempted forumites should do some research first.
  22. Nobody needs a watch partner. It’s corporate speak and we need more of it. I would urge anyone who is normally tempted (I definitely am) to prioritise companies who support RL to give this lot a swerve should you be looking for a new watch though.
  23. Local RU calls off matches for the pitches being too hard in no rain periods.
  24. “I enjoyed the past but I’m happy I don’t live there”
