  1. Reminds me of Scorpions v Oldham at the Old Parish. Even the Roughyeds fans in attendence were taken aback by the iciness of the cascading horrizontal rain and players coming off with suspected hypothermia. Might just come up for that one and stock up on the Cleator Moors!
  2. Maybe trying to expand the game geographically, economically by bringing in people with business acumen from outside, rather than administration from a succession of rank amateurs like Rimmer, negotiating a stronger media revenue, a strong competitive international game with homegrown players, would provide the sort of revenue required to fund this, rather than just saying 'this is a northern game and this is how it's always been done. These outsiders don't know what they're on about', maybe, just maybe if the product is that good, people with this money will sit up and take notice!! Eddie Hearn was scared off RL despite initial interest and look what him and his father did for darts. Time to evolve.
  3. We all know it would have been naff all, otherwise Gav would have played more than that one game. He hasn't been fit or interested in playing any rugby for years and I called that out at the time he signed.
  4. That's just nonsense regards the fees. As for poorly run, well, again pay peanuts..
  5. Exactly, that's the problem Your own worst enemy. WWR were on a smaller budget than everyone else in League 1
  6. It's actually already benefitting Salford through Coleg y Cymoedd's link up. Already two Welsh players made their Super League debuts.
  7. You can't do anything without money. When the RFL and 'blinkered English Northerners' realise this we will have a much stronger international and domestic game.
  8. Disappointing news, but realistically it was never going to work in Llanelli without massive investment. Time for an actual semi-pro SOUTH (not West) Wales team based in Cardiff. Expansion can and will work given the right people and resources here.
  9. Also the women won the European Championship B, also beating Ireland 44-4 in Dublin.
  10. Dudson would be but suspended. Knowles did a 'Carvell', Regan has gone to Union and Flower retired last year, and White is still out with long term injury? Still... 12/24 born and bred in that squad. I thought the match was a competitive hit out, and worth the 7h round trip. Their full back really made the difference with two line breaks and a couple of opportunist tries in the 1st half, whereas Y Dreigiau squandered 2 great chances. Again pleased to come back into the game 2nd half and Curtis scored 2 great tries. Execution was the difference really. Feel slightly more confident than before but still expecting 3 defeats. Again the experience of a Frizzell (admittedly now Aus) or Grace would have made a big difference. 500 there, bit disappointed speaking to the Swinton management but no surprise really. Scotland played in Edinburgh and we should have had this at the Arms Park/Memorial Ground where we would have got double that.
  11. Indeed, the point is we've had more Wales games in Albi the last few years than Aberafan.
  12. Whilst I'm pleased that after almost 3 years of no international Men's Welsh RL match, we have a warm up game before the world Cup and makes sense it being close to the WC base, I'd still like to see us playing matches here in the 'Non-Principality', whether that be Cardiff, Colwyn Bay or Dwygyfalchi because we will end up once again with zero Welsh media interest and miss a great opportunity to promote the sport here once again.
  13. Good crowd over 1500 people and some good games, though very disappointed not to see Cardiff there in any of the finals.
  14. Again though, this highlights the fact that the international game and lack of European club competition holds RL back. Can't see Wales even beating the Cook Islands now.
  15. Not for us there isn't, a great talent and a bad loss. Again, the weakness of the sports' leadership and financial clout of the game means it loses out.
  16. No double today then. I think it will stay at the one win for the season, still an improvement on last two years.
  17. Well I must admit I was hoping for a little more when they were 16-12 up v Skolars yesterday, only to be 0-26 in the 2nd half. I guess we now know where we're all at now: Cernyw rock bottom, West Wales then London in bottom 3, Rochdale, Oldham and Midlands in the middle then Keighley and The Gogs fighting it out for the title
  18. If we don't play regular international rugby league, then the scene will suffer, victory for our u16s v England last week and a competitive outing today shows that progress is being made, but we can't be going 3-4 years without an international match, covid or otherwise. It needs a meaningful, regular calendar, regardless of women/u16s/wheelchair/men/whatever
  19. Should be about 50 in the end but it's definitely progress. We've fronted up well against a bigger, more incisive English forward line, we just sitting too deep and lack penetrating runs from deep to create that space. The good thing as Well from a Welsh perspective is most of our women are playing for Cardiff Demons who have shown they can beat WSL opposition already and should progress to playing that level regularly soon. There's players like Burnell with plenty of WRU experience as well as multiple women's RL clubs across South and North Wales.
  20. YYYYYYYYEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Win no. 2 is in the books!
  21. The slightly better than expected result may have been down a full competent Welsh contingent of match officials for what I think must be the first time. Great to see Christopher get an opportunity, certainly better than many of the people who have come down over the years here.
  22. Doesn't get any easier today v Keighley but it's a another chance to take a tentative step forward. Again completing the sets and cutting out the simple errors to keep it respectable. *edit 4-46 - considering they put 96 on Skolars last week it sounds like they took on some of that 'advice'... On a brighter note, Just like to big up the Demons ladies who performed so admirably in the Nines tournament last week, beating Bradford Bulls and stuffing Leigh Miners before running a top York City Knights WSL side close!!
  23. Absolutely. This is something the Southern Conference can aspire to given time and the resources mentioned previously, places like Bath, Worcester, Torfaen, Swindon, Bristol all currently involved. 84-4 in the Welsh derby. Better than expected to be fair, was easily expecting the ton the way Crusaders have started the season.
  24. They definitely had a side for Doncaster, frustrating thing is it was the one game last year they should have won and they could have had a chance if they'd turned up. No excuses for this one really, should always have a back up doctor. I vaguely remember Scorpions needed one for a game at Maesteg and they turned up a bit late but the game still went ahead as confirmed.
