SL clubs look to reinstate Nigel Wood.
redjonn replied to The 4 of Us's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Yep, something we have to accept regards when games are scheduled. Plus maybe there is an aspect of one's club not doing so well. Although that's' because I go with my partner to watch Leeds and only occasionally nip over to Saints. Never-the-less what Wigan displayed in Vegas showed what the game can on the park can produce. I guess my main, all-be-it maybe implied, point is if we can get that type of entertainment in most games in regular season the sport would have a much brighter future. To me the product on the pitch isn't anywhere the heights it could be which should be a a focus of the sport re-imagined. Of course the IMG aspects/ground improvements, etc all important but the biggest impact for me is what's on the pitch, the entertainment. They enable one to overcome some other frustrations, helps make the sport more exciting for viewers from which can translate RL sporting icons. -

All interesting stuff I read here regards reviews, IMG, consultants and the to and froing as to what has been achieved by IMG. I do find it interesting. All I know is how I'm watching RL/SL.... and that is much less. I am fed up not having a consistent day evening when I go and watch our preferred club. I don't watch it much on Sky even the club we support except we watched the Vegas game which highlighted the levels of entertainment the game could offer thanks to Wigan but rarely seen again on the more mundane league games, etc etc, i say etc because it would just come across as moaning. My point being I'm getting to the point of not going but I've paid a commercial/sponsorship for the season but we are actively reviewing whether to continue. Vegas offered a glimpse of the potential thanks to Wigan superlative skills and performance but the reality day to day grind isn't achieving it. So for me it cries out for a review whether die-hard supporters of IMG or polar opposite as the Vegas glimpse showed whats possible and what the game could be like on the field. which is far from the week in week out currently on offer most the time. -
Have you ever had a dream about RL?

Not sure any of us can say with certainty how Sky decision makers currently view IMG involvement, assuming they are aware of their full role and impacts - Although dependant upon how high in the organisation decisions are taken. I would have thought the Vegas involvement of SL will have a much bigger impact regarding TV contracts plus the competitive landscape if any. Vegas being an indicator of ambition and possible opportunities. -
I agree it does and will take time and improvements made. I brought in to fatigue leading to poor decisions and loss of concentration but given the the message is the team are fitter than ever after a tough pre-season but against Catalan fatigue wasn't a reason/excuse. Yep weather was awful but that means you adjust your approach were focus and individual decision making is even more important.
-
yep not seeing anything any different than last couple/few seasons... with regard to building pressure, errors, showing lack of composure , passing poor - those short passes frpm croft not working and other passing players always having to adjust... no power from forwards with the passing not helping... in fact in the other games Hall has shown the any power forward... and even not playing today probably had more to show than any of leeds forwards. Croft has been poor so far in the games he's played... On yeah, still inconsistent from one game to another or part of games.
-
not sure how you could say that based on the TV screen... close but no way could TV viewer or more importantly could the Video ref, unless he had better images. He overrode the ref decision so should have had to have been certain... surprised he could tell from the sky tv images. Anyway so far its been a poor game, only mitigation is the ball must be wet after all the bad weather.
-
well the SL teams as they are at this moment in time would struggle but you said clubs. You said clubs and a number of our top clubs could compete given the extra monies from their TV deals, etc etc and what participation in the NRL could offer then yep a number of clubs could... Not that it logistically it would make any sense but theoretically and ignoring the geography a number of clubs are run well enough to compete over a period. Never-the-less it seems to me a nonsensical idea.

wouldn't that be normal, that is always get some no shows...

just following other comments and yours was the last one when I commented. Yer right you didn't specifically mention reffing but I was trying to just add another reason for the low scoring you mentioned. Anyway and in my view hopefully the ignoring of infringements gets some balance rather than almost total ignored. Otherwise it will aid the defending team too much.
-
I disagree regards the reffing. I think the reffing of the game aided the defending sides whether Leigh or Wigan. The ignoring of the messing around in the ruck/PTB including ignoring the often secondary messing enabled either team to get their defensive lines intact as well as slowing or closing opportunity from quick PTB. So if allowing the game to flow means ignoring all but the most blatant fouls then its not for me. Both teams benefited and not surprising either team struggled to get attacking momentum. Even the blatant block on Ferrell prior to his yellow card was ignored, at least a penalty any other time.... I've interesting read the various positive comments and the Sky spin but I just can't say I find the game exciting. Yep intriguing but if letting the game flow means ignoring blatant slowing down of the ruck PTB then not surprising low scoring games as i say enables the defence structure/line to be in place, plus plenty of chances to get yer breath back. I also am amused by the irony in the logic of introducing the captains challenge which slows the flow of the game whilst insisting ref ignores some rules to ensure free flow. Although I am in favour of the challenge just find the irony of logic amusing. Anyway I was pleased Leigh won the game.

IMG, it might be working?

again and sorry to be a pain that depends upon the definition and knowing internal information to make an assessment. Nevertheless based upon knowing almost nowt .... strike that... should say knowing nowt Hull FC seemed to have had a poorly run team across all aspects over the last couple of seasons...looking forward to them improving. No idea about their financial aspects but one would have to suspect not too well otherwise they may have invested more valued time, effort & monies into the playing side. London seemingly have had an investor over many years that the club could have done more with the money invested. The last season being a result of the poor running over those wasted years. Although must be said they managed their cash flow better than Salford and maybe cut their cloth accordingly to meet their finances. -

that depends upon what or whose definition of a well run club is.. -
Sponsorship in Rugby League.

I guess despite the various suggestions is that the fundamental problem is the lack of a strong marketing organisation within RFL/SL, recognition of the costs of employing such expertise and hence the non investment in such. Yep we may not have the funds one may say but recognition of need and prioritising of such by each club taking less central funding to enable investment for long term benefit. Again that is where a good CEO of the organisation comes in as the initial building block. We have IMG involved now and we hope that will make up with the lack own good marketing organisation but we still have the underlying fundamentals of RFL leadership. I was in a highly successful business which would be described in business speak as Marketing Led and where the highest salaries were and the best of talent hence I may be somewhat biased in my views. -
League Express Podcast 66

I enjoyed watching and thought the guest was quite insightful. I had/have no underlying bias and thought the guest was fully aware of the state of the game pre and post whatever period so don't get the comment above. -
Whilst I can see that a new rule being introduced would initially cause some confusion and debate around decisions I am not so sure how dastardly a game would be affected once time has been allowed for the initial chaos. So I'm just wondering how badly affected some would think the game will be. Just that given anything above the shoulder is now normally deemed at least a penalty, and the first tackling is more often than not put around the arms with multiple others coming into an arm wrestle until refs calls hold - which sometimes seems an age, I am not sure how many tackles allowed today will be outlawed. Thus I wonder how much a game would be impacted.
