Reserves Competition
Liverpool Rover replied to Wollo Wollo Wayoo's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Super League clubs will always send their best young prospects out on loan to the Championship as it is a higher standard than reserve rugby will be able to offer. Reserve rugby is a useful bridge between academy and first team rugby but when young players need to make the step up to first team rugby the Championship will offer the first team experience that they will need. -

Which means promoted clubs will then up with one of the weaker teams in the league which leads to the problem of RL being IMO a less forgiving game then football in that aspect. In football teams playing against superior ones can set up to play for draw or to be able to hit on the break where in RL weaker teams are more exposed.

I’m sure it was also Radford who mentioned that player insurance was starting to become an issue and then complains about turning the sport into netball.

I watched the first episode of a House of the Dragon, I’ll give it a few more episodes as I don’t think you can write off a show after just one episode. On Monday new House of Games, University Challenge and Only Connect start. -

Has the game actually tried to generate any financial return? Aren’t all the broadcasts of Catalans games paid for by the club. -

Promotion & Relegation/Licencing hybrid system
Liverpool Rover replied to JAG's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
You could have P&R every year but still base it over the previous 3 or 4 years. This way newly promoted teams wouldn't be eligible for relegation until they have played the required number of seasons.- 387 replies

Toronto gave the game something to sell that other sports in this country don’t and when they signed SBW the league didn’t do anything to try to capitalise on it. With hindsight Toronto would have been better off going into Super League with a few years relegation exemption like Catalans instead of having to squander a fortune in those years they had to be in the lower leagues.

Tom Opacic signs for Hull KR

Seems to be a good signing who will bolster the back line and hopefully stiffen up the right edge defensively. -
It isn’t a gambling problem, it’s a not having anyone else interested problem. My first thought when I saw the New England shirt was “Betfred again?”. I know the RFL very good with the commercial side of the game but if nobody is interested in sponsoring then what can you do? I remember a post where the poster was trying to get his friend to get his company to become a sponsor for something and in the end his friend admitted that although he loved the game he didn’t want his company involved because he was worried about what his clients would think. Having a northern based bookmaker sponsoring everything probably just reinforces the games image of being a northern working class game in the eyes of those who have always bagged the game as such. Being a northern working class community game was Rugby Leagues strength but the game hasn’t really moved on from that apart from the odd southern based teams and it is now becoming a weakness.

The main reason IMO why Catalans were able to grow as they have is because of the stability they had that came with the years they had of no relegation. If the other clubs had the same stability they could do the same knowing that one bad season on the field wouldn’t ruin everything which would lead to more clubs being able to compete for the top places. Academies being mandatory for all SL clubs. Centralised marketing and merchandising. Stadium criteria including minimum capacity corporate, commercial operations etc. Clubs outside of Super League to be assessed and given feedback on meeting criteria and accepted when ready
