  1. Nice does look a great city but I’m never sure how to pronounce it, is it Nice or is it Nice? I pronounce it Nice but my wife says it’s Nice.
  2. 8500 although the big screen possibly takes away a bit of the capacity. Going to revise my prediction to 7400
  3. There was allegedly a crowd of exactly 4000 for York vs Bradford there in 2021, I couldn’t make that game so can’t confirm just seems a bit too precise! Otherwise highest was 3602 York vs Featherstone in the season opener this year. I’ll just add York stopped giving attendances soon after that game but none seemed close to that. I estimate tonight’s attendance will be about 6000-6500.
  4. That’s never good to hear. I can’t comment on the earlier director, before my time. With JF I’m not sure if you’re referring to previous chairman Jon Flatman or previous coach James Ford, neither departure seems clear to me, they both happened very suddenly but I guess that’s sport for you. I worked in the ‘ticket office’ at Bootham Crescent 2017-2020 ish, met a few Coventry fans (in fact I interviewed one for my programme column). Never even heard of a hint of them feeling unwelcome. I remember one Coventry fan being a bit unhappy because he said he’d come up on the team coach and thought he would be the only visiting supporter there so asked if he could have a free ticket for that reason. I politely told him it’s not a decision I could make, to me that’s just common sense and so I’d hope he didn’t think I was being unwelcome. The stewards at LNER seem much more friendly. As for York as a club I think we’ve made big strides but there’s certain areas that need tidying up and working on.
  5. It’s an odd statement, we haven’t hosted Coventry at the LNER which is much better for fans than Bootham Crescent ever was. We played Hurricanes in a friendly earlier this year, their directors said how welcoming it had been, 2 of them were even allowed to stand up and talk for 10 minutes about all things Midlands to those of us in hospitality.
  6. Don’t know about other York fans but I’d prefer to play a club like Newcastle at a neutral ground (like last season), than play Fev on home turf. Kinda levels things up. I’ve been to about 6 York-Fev matches and I’ve only seen us give them a game twice (and only one of those 2 games resulted in a win).
  7. Such as Castleford having a smaller pitch. Only matters when they win though.
  8. I’ll wait for it to be confirmed but the club, council and any other governing bodies will really have to raise their game for this. Let’s not just put the weekend on, hope there’s enough parking and cross fingers that the last bus back to York turns up. For a start given at least 50% of fans are likely to be travelling down the A64 from the Leeds side I’d suggest shuttle buses direct from Askham Bar park and ride.
  9. Nah, no need to keep your options open. I saw a film once and a woman was trying to get home to her 8 year old son who was home alone, she managed to get a plane ticket after a bit of haggling then simply made the last leg of the journey home in the back of a van with a polka band. If she can do it, the Kiwis can.
  10. Likes Toby Carvery, hope you have one in Dewsbury? Solid player, won’t let you down.
  11. Not quite that simple. The organisers might have given tickets to schools which then didn’t turn up (but still counted the tickets). Fans only staying for the first game or only arriving for the second. Also there’s a 500/600 capacity hospitality area at the back of the main stand where a lot of guests like to watch from.
  12. Good question. I know when venues were initially announced they picked Workington’s still unbuilt new stadium to host 3 matches (which ended up going to Newcastle) but nothing for York. I was disappointed but then York have been given plenty of women’s games, I’d hope there’s a good 4/5k there next week for the double header. BUT....it’s hard to say how crowds have held up at York, for whatever reason they decided to stop announcing them after the first few league matches of 2022. Fans have estimated the rest of the league attendances as being anywhere from 800 to 2000 ish. I think venues will already have been chosen before York Knights decided to go all secretive so i doubt it was a factor in the organisers reasoning for not giving York any men’s games but going forwards I hope the club is more transparent and if crowds are promising, shout about it like other clubs do, for whatever reason I feel we struggle to create a buzz at the club. The York public do turn out for some sporting events - obviously the racecourse is usually at capacity. The football club have been getting some 6-7000 crowds in. York Knights have had crowds of 3000-4000 at the last stadium (swelled by away support) and a handful of 3000 ish crowds here at the LNER. There’s a huge target market. In short on the one hand I think a crowd of 6000+ for a men’s group game could have been achieved, on the other hand it wouldn’t have surprised me if a game like Fiji vs Italy at York only got 3675 like it did at Newcastle. A work in progress.
  13. 3091 at the women’s double header at LNER stadium last night. The second biggest RL crowd there in 2022, whether that’s a positive I don’t know. Got my tickets for the next double header there, looking forward to it.
  14. Thought Bernard got through some work in the games he played, helps the forward line
  15. Just need a certain poster to mention 3G (or is it 4G) pitches then I’ve filled my TRL bingo card
  16. I’m guessing it’s a clever marketing campaign, perhaps they’ll announce its actual a new women’s team?
  17. And I thought it was bad when Cas hired Stevie Wonder to draw a tiger on a shirt....
  18. You’ve forgotten the commentator having to explain the rules about knock ons, offsides and 40/20s all match.
  19. I like the new badge, and the website was long overdue a revamp, good work all round.
  20. I was a regular at Castleford when Steadman was in charge, going to most matches home and away. Just like at York he is a club legend there but he was badly let down by his signings and he was in charge for some of the season when Cas were relegated for the first time in their history. The rugby on show was really poor - it made some of the ‘inside pass then kick it to the corner’ performances under Fordy look like Harlem Globetrotter stuff. He’s been out of the game almost 2 decades and wouldn’t be my choice but he is still highly respected and if he does get the job will have my full support.
