  1. Mal Reilly would be around the top of my list as being the best UK player to play in Aus. Cliff Watson would top him for hardness. In the 1970 Ashes series Cliff took on the several of the Aus. pack including use of the "Liverpool Kiss". It was the last Ashes series that GB won.
  2. Is he the first lad born in Hull and playing for HKR to win a MOM for an England or GB game? Watched Phil Lowe but don't recall him doing it!
  3. Do not think China will be bothered at all as PNG is already in China's Belt and Road Initiative.
  4. Played a fair bit of Union in the 50's before leaving the UK and Cliff Morgan was a brilliant fly half for Wales and the Lions. Lightning fast with beautiful hands he was the best FH I have ever seen. Loved that commentary!
  5. If you want to see the ball played with the foot on every occasion then watch an Aussie women's match. Welsby was a player who did this in every game until this season and is now back with the SL pack in rolling the ball backwards. Still not nailed on in the NRL where roll the ball backwards is often used -Tedesco is a classic example. Have yet to see him play the ball correctly and I watch all NRL games.
  6. Herbie will play and is a class act. Recently won a place as a centre in the 2023 Dally M team of 2023. Am coming back to Sydney for the first time since I left for the NSW mid North Coast a few months back. A Penrith Club member and fan since 2000 with hopes for a win but great respect for the Broncos who will certainly give us a great game.
  7. On the playing front would disagree on that and would rank Schofield just ahead of Millward. Loved watching Millward when he had a short stint with Cronulla when I supported them in the 70's. Another I would include with these 2 would be Dave Bolton who I saw winning 2 Challenge Cup finals plus a NRL Premiership in Aus.
  8. Best halves I have ever seen would be 2 combinations. Bolton/ Murphy and Millward/ Hepworth. Both were Ashes winning halves with the latter in the last GB team to win the Ashes back in 1970.
  9. Heard a comment late in the match that since Brisbane had played in their many Finals matches they had never nilled an opponent. Melbourne's key spine players all had a pretty poor game.
  10. The 2 matches are being refereed by the 2 NRL female referees. Both are making their solo NRL debut, although Belinda Sharpe did feature as a co referee when the NRL had 2 refs pre Covid.
  11. Incredible viewing figures as over 11 million watched the match!
  12. Probably the worst 10 or so minutes Nicho will experience in Origin!
  13. In my years of watching(1945-1966) occasional games between Hull and Rovers were played at Boothferry Park( Hull City's old ground). Rovers in the early 1880's did play at the Boulevard for a few years.
  14. Lucky enough to see Clive Chuchill play for Aus against Hull at the Boulevard back in 1948 when I was 10 years old. Hull put out an iconic souvenir programme for the match which on the folding front cover had the Kangaroos colours featuring the Sydney Harbour bridge. Had it for over 50 years before losing it in our last house move in 2000. Think you mean Frank Burge as another immortal. Back on topic my preference as commentator is Warren Smith then Dan Ginnane followed by Vossy(agree with your comments on him).
  15. Has pleaded not guilty to all charges and it will not go to trial before December. The female concerned was his ex girlfriend with the union broken up a day before the alleged offenses occurred. Should his employers now allow him to return to his normal work?
  16. We really made hard work of that and are not improving in general form. Will struggle to reach top 6 this season.
  17. Wighton lands in the South Sydney net with a 4 year deal to possibly close his NRL playing days.
  18. How many for kicking the ball over the goalposts, catching then grounding it. Did this once playing Union back in my college days after taking an interception on the halfway line.
  19. In Aus. it went from 2 points to 1 in 1971 due to the prolific Souths goalkicker Eric Simms who kicked a record 86 during his career including 5 in 1 match. In the 1970 Premiership GF Souths beat St George and Simms kicked 4. In that match the recently departed Souths captain and legend John Sattler played with a broken jaw for over 60 mins Having been at the recent Panthers/Eels derby match and seeing the Cleary drop goal bring the teams level at full time I am in favour of it. Off topic, in bygone days of the 50's I was a goalkicker for teams I played for in league and union. Occasionally I did drop kick conversions in both.
  20. Is It time for a coach change at Canberra? Since Ricky won his first Premiership with a crack Roosters outfit he has tried for over 20 years to get a second one.
  21. The contact to the head penalty and sin binning of Kenny gave Parra the energy boost they needed to position Moses. Really enjoyed the match and electric atmosphere at the game. A really fitting end to the final derby game I will attend before I head North.
  22. I was a Cronulla season ticket holder at that time and saw all their home matches. Bradford attracted the highest attendance of just over 8,000. We reached the semi final and were beaten by the Hunter Mariners with just over 5000 there.
