OK, will the 3 Jokers who laughed at the idea of a part-time professional game, please give us their plan for a sustainable British game? We await............ -
Terrible financial news for Saints
Pete Grady replied to lucky 7's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Going semi pro is the answer. All the best British talent will go the NRL, our National team will then prosper and the British game will be sustainable. -
I went there just the once with Salford my club, it was an ok ground to visit but the game wasn't very exciting and perhaps that clouds my opinon of the day. I think Jim Challoner was their star player in the centre, having signed from Barrow, I may be wrong there, but certainly Ken Dodd wasn't playing though, not a tickling stick in sight.

News today suggests that Paul Rowley is staying with Salford and has turned down Leeds. That's great news for my Club., he's turned down 2 so called 'bigger clubs' now and so I suppose there's only Saints to come knocking on the door, if they haven't already. But Rowls has proved that job satisfaction for once, no twice, is more important than the lolly.

Very good post Double Knock ON, I too live with prostate cancer, the "Locally Advanced PC" & is undergoing hormone and radiotherapy' type and treatment'. I wish your friend well, it's quite a shocker to be diagnosed, but now after 7 years I'm used to it and accept that it will probaably come back. But heigh ho, dementure, heart problems or cancer are the routes most of us go down. Rest in peace Bill.

Well played Huddersfield, you deserved the win. As far as Salford are concerned, just like when they lost away at Cas, they score the first try, and absolutely no team celebration?!? Were they taking Huddersield and Castleford too lightly? Well if they were, they got what they deserved, on both occassions.

Oh, thanks for that Griff.

1968 Cup semi at Central Park Warrington v Salford Salford's centre Stuart Whitehead in the act of scoring a try with R C showing, as a Warry player is pulling his shorts from behind, whilst the ref., Eric Clay, has tripped and lies fallen on the ground, pointing for the try. There was a great photo of the moment in the papers at the time, but can't find it.

'Rod Hull and Emu' Tribute Act.... if only

Watson's a nice lad for sure, but out of his depth at the 'Not-so-Giants'. And no chance of him coming back to Salford in any capacity, as the club owners, i.e the fans, wouldn't trust him because of the way he 'empted the petty cash tin' when he left by taking players and backroom staff with him. 'Don't care what happens to him, he's history now.

Leeds Rhinos appoint new coach …

Arfa f' arfa. -
I must say though that I will be relieved when Leeds announce Brad Arthur as their Coach and Paul Rowley signs the new contract on the table for him at Salford. (I think I'll slip off my bandages and nip into Paul King's office and forge Rowey's signature on the contract, that should do it!)

Salford's style with Watson was a little dour to watch, but effective, and it only changed when Watto took the trip over the Pennines and Paul Rowley became Head Coach. Salford became much better to watch after Watson left to carry on with his '5 drives, kick and defend well & force a mistake' game plan at Huddersfield. Of course that game plan still holds at Salford, but with a lot more skill, adventure and licence to be bold, wherever you are on the pitch, and that's all down to Paul Rowley imo.

The talk about the differences between Leeds and Salford boil down not to money, ambition or history, it boils down to where Paul Rowley would rather be right now and that place is Salford, where he is happy, 'fulfilled' to quote him and in control of his own destiny, and that can't be assured if he were to move to Headingly. Try this: In his bestselling book Walden, the 19th-century philosopher Henry David Thoreau introduced the captivating notion of “life-cost” – the amount of time, energy, health and mental wellbeing we sacrifice to achieve our aims and objectives. Many of us unthinkingly seek to acquire as much money as possible, or to accumulate possessions. Or else we chase status in the form of degrees, awards, promotion or fame. We willingly pay for these things with our time and often with our health or our relationships. We should therefore always ask ourselves: what is the actual life-cost of our choices? If we find the price we pay is too high, we may wish to make adjustments, privileging time and health over money or status. Paul Rowley is a wise man and sees that all that glitters at Leeds is not gold*, but the happiness, fulfilment and control he enjoys at Salford amounts to the gold we are all best served to attain. (*5 coaches in 7 years is it, matched only by Man Utd. and Chelsea of the 'Big' sporting Clubs?)

Stick with Watto, I say.
