"Primitive" Scenes in PNG Raise Serious Concerns

Parts of PNG are extremely dangerous, Port Morseby being one of those areas.

I know this from first hand experience.

Talent is secondary to whether players are confident.

what an absolute tragedy. I don't know which way to stand on the future of the WC in PNG. In so many ways it is so impotant for the WC to be part hosted in PNG.

The unfortunate reality (despite the sheer ignorance displayed by some on this thread alone) is that PNG is a very dangerous place.

The RLIFs ability to rely on local authorities to ensure the safety of the players and fans has definitely taken a hit.

Parts of Rio are even worse but that didn't stop FIFA and the IOC...

i wouldn't say parts of Rio are worse. FIFA and IOC have far more financial resources to dedicate to the safety of all as well.

Port Moresby dosen't even feature in a list of the 50 most dangerous places to visit,Brazil has numerous and South Africa has 2 and they have hosted a few rather large sporting events.

This is not an argument about which city or country is more dangerous than the other and resources dedicated to safely and securely hosting events in such countries are all very different.

The fact of the matter is, a person has lost their life after being attacked in post match antics between opposing sets of fans and these types of outbreaks are common occurrence in PNG.

Heaven help us, if that does not warrant further consideration from the general RL public!

Fortunately to the organisers it has.

I don't recall any of the Qld intrust cup teams refusing to travel to PNG which suggests trouble occurs mostly between opposing local teams, hopefully sense will prevail and PNG keeps its World Cup games even if it means increasing security both inside and outside the stadium.
