Paul Hayden RIP

Recommended Posts

'Joey' Hayden was my favourite player when I first started going on my own to Featherstone games. A stocky but small black haired half back from Normanton.

He had a decent turn of pace over 20 yards and packed a solid drive. At the time he was competing with many half backs, especially Rovers' first season up in 80/81.

Fellow Normantonian Steve Evans and Tex Hudson, were cemented at 6 and 7 but that season Steve Barker and Phil Butler played in the halves too, but 'Joey' got a decent run. The final piece of Vince's jigsaw in 1982 was the signing of Neil Pickerill, then the subsequent signing of Phil Johnson and the emergence of Alan Banks meant that 'Joey' had ran his race.

Sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
