Super League - Marquee Players

There used to be much fanfare around these but it barely gets mentioned nowadays.  Are there any left or are majority of teams so far under the cap it is an irrelevance?

I thought the following could be marquee players based on alleged salary etc:-

Sam Tomkins - Catalans

Mitch Pearce - Catalans

Zane Tetevano - Leeds

George Williams - Warrington

Bevan French - Wigan

John Bateman - Wigan

Is that potentially accurate or are there any more?  Do St Helen’s have any?

There was talk in the past that Sezer was at Huddersfield, Reynolds at Hull, Widdop and Austin at Warrington, Coote and Naiqama at St Helen’s, Hurrell at Leeds were but who knows I guess…

Salary and ability are two different things!  I’m positive it was reported he was a marquee signing when he arrived.

Was there ever a fanfare? I don’t think we ever made enough of a big thing about it as we maybe could.

There has only really been one instance where the marquee rule has been used in its spirit, to attract a player who's profile (and cost of course) adds real interest and media attention to the sport.
