Central Funding

Can someone explain how central funding is allocated by RFL to Chamionship and League 1 clubs both this season and next.

It's been said in the past Whitehaven recieved circa 120k.  This season it was slashed to only 40k which in part contributed to out  financial issues.  But next season it will be 85k if we are relegated I.e bottom two and presumably a little more if we stay up.

All makes no sense to me and its very unclear what the clubs actually receive.

Rephrase that it's the highest IMG that gets 150k down to the lowest placed championship 2 teams who get 85k . We're the lowest placed IMG team in the championship.  And in league 1 the highest placed IMG team gets 33k and 16k for the lowest . That's how I read it on Facebook from a lad called the game caller. Basically newcastle are rock bottom in league 1 yet are probably top in the IMG list.  And it's a 50k bonus if you get promoted

The Championship and League One Rugby League clubs have found out how much central funding has been proposed and how it will be distributed for the 2025 season.

As we discussed on the radio during the Sheffield Eagles vs Bradford Bulls game at the weekend, the funding will work down from 1st to 13th in the Championship and from 1st to 11th in League One based on where each club sits in the IMG Grading table.

So, the higher your IMG Grading, the more RFL central funding your club will receive.

There has been a slight decrease in the proposed funding with the top Championship club earning just under £150,000 for the 2025 season.

The 13th and bottom-placed Championship club would receive around £85,000, so an incremental difference of around £65,000 between the highest and lowest-placed Championship clubs.

In League One, the central distribution is squeezed further with the highest-placed League One club receiving only £33,000 and the lowest just £18,000. This represents a difference of £16,000 between the highest and lowest-placed League One club.

We worked it out at the weekend that if you shared the total amount of central funding equally, then each of the 24 clubs would receive around £73,000 each.

Unfortunately for the League One clubs, that won't be the case.

What is interesting to note is that promotion from League One to the Championship is worth an extra £50,000, so a great incentive for those clubs who start the League One playoffs this coming weekend.

If that's the distribution for 2025 assume it's based on 2024 league placings?

So getting relegated thus year would mean we have a much bigger budget than any League 1 club I.e nearly three times as much.

Whilst dosen t seem fair it probably gives us  a shot at promotion.

We need the club to be stable and sustainable before even thinking about promotion!

If we get the 85k with sponsors should have a budget of 100k everything else gate money bar money and coin the vice presidents make should be banked . Because we'll get next to nowt on league 1 the year later. Us and town where the 2 lowest established clubs in the IMG table. Checked it last night newcastle are well up the rankings it's a farce how they work it out
