Halifax Panthers confirm Alfie Johnson’s move to Castleford Tigers

ALFIE JOHNSON will join Castleford Tigers for 2027, Halifax Panthers have confirmed.

The 25-year-old has excelled for the Panthers during the current Championship, scoring eight tries in ten appearances following his move from Warrington Wolves.

Former England and Great Britain rugby sevens player Johnson switched codes to join the Wolves ahead of last season but made just two appearances.

He spent time on loan with Widnes Vikings and London Broncos before exiting the Cheshire club on a permanent basis ahead of the 2026 campaign.

The Panthers released the news earlier, saying: “We would like to wish Alfie all the best for the future and thank him for all he has done, and will continue to do, for the club.”

Castleford are yet to confirm the move or the length of contract signed.

Johnson will form part of a new-look Castleford in 2027 with St George Illawarra Dragons trio Mat Feagai, Damien Cook and Tyrell Sloan all making the move to the OneBore Stadium, alongside Leigh Leopards pair Robbie Mulhern and Ben McNamara.

Tyler Dupree, Jack Brown and Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e all joined the Tigers earlier this year.
