EMERGING Hull FC youngster Will Kirby has put his hand up for another big shift against Wakefield Trinity on Friday.
Hull Wyke product Kirby was given his sixth first-team appearance – and only his second start – in Saturday’s 36-12 home win against Huddersfield Giants.
The 20-year-old began in the loose-forward role before moving to his more customary back-row position to see out Hull’s first win in five.
“It’s the first time I’ve played the full 80 (minutes) so I’m confident, if I get picked next week, I can last again and keep adding more quality to my involvements,” said Kirby, who has also played nine times with Hunslet.
Of Hull’s much-needed victory, he added: “Our defensive capability could never be in question, it was just adding quality and icing our opportunities and we did that really well today.”
Hull coach Andy Last was pleased to see Kirby make a mark, saying: “He’s earned his spot.
“He trains exceptionally well; he’s been a hard trainer in the 18 months I’ve been with the club. He’s holding his own now.
“Today he was a bit of a Mr Fix It for me. Losing Custy (Cade Cust) and Zak (Hardaker, to injuries), Will filled it by starting at loose-forward.
“He did an exceptional job, so I’m pleased with the way Will is going at the moment.”
