RYAN CARR has explained that he “understands the reasons” for Castleford Tigers’ bad days.
The Tigers have been wildly inconsistent throughout this season, beating St Helens, Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos whilst also being on the receiving end of massive hammerings to Warrington Wolves, Wakefield Trinity and Hull KR.
Last Friday’s 52-14 thrashing by Wakefield was the third time that Trinity have demolished the Tigers.
But head coach Carr believes that he knows which issues are plaguing his side.
“We have had a few bad days this year so it’s not the first time we’ve had to address something we are disappointed with,” Carr said.
“We’ve got to get out of it as quickly as we can because games come quick and fast.
“We understand the reasons why; it’s about mentality and physicality. We know internally what we need to fix.
“It’s not a collective thing because collectively, we were up 10-6 early on (against Wakefield), on the back of a really tough game against Leeds.
“Our preparation hasn’t changed once, our detail hasn’t changed once. In the games where we have had bad losses, we have been banged up during those games too.
“People are being moved out of position, we dropped two more forwards against Wakefield. It’s not an excuse, it’s the reality.
“When you can’t touch the ball you’re not going to win and we had 35 percent possession. It’s the lowest in Super League this year.
“You’ve got to try and work hard with those individuals and we need to get our mentality right.
“When momentum has been against us, we haven’t had the ability to stop it in some games.
“The culture has been good and the players have been working really hard – I can’t fault anyone for not working hard during the week.”
However, the Tigers look to be without Ashton Golding for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury suffered at Wakefield.
“Ash has done a bad job on his hamstring,” said Carr.
“He was playing in every position for us at one period. It’s a real shame for him and we are trying to get round him.
“Most likely, he will be out for the season.”
