Wakefield Trinity boss explains Cameron Scott exit and his replacement

DARYL POWELL has explained that the decision for Cameron Scott to leave Wakefield Trinity was made by the club.

Scott will leave Trinity after two years to sign for Bradford Bulls from 2027.

The former Hull FC man was out of contract at the end of this season, and coach Powell has revealed that the club weren’t keeping him on.

“We made a decision that we’d move in a different direction and that happens,” Powell said.

“It doesn’t take away from what Cam has done with us, he’s been a high-quality player for us and I know he’s looking forward to having a great season for the remainder of this year.

“The nature of the beast is that players move on and we wish him all the best when that comes around.”

The Wakefield boss was also asked whether Scott’s replacement would come from inside or outside the club, to which he replied: “A little bit of both.

“We’re still looking at the moment but Pratty (Oliver Pratt) has played on the wing a lot, and we see him as a centre down the track.

“I think recruitment will play a bit of a part in that and that depends on who is available.”

Trinity’s recruitment for 2027 is nearing completion according to Powell, with Wakefield already having signed Cameron Smith, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Emre Guler.

He said: “I think we’re not too far away. There’s a couple of moving parts but we’re pretty solid.

“We’re always looking at earlier retentions which is important in the current marketplace too.”
