AFTER LEAVING behind the building site, Tom Inman isn’t taking anything for granted with York Knights in Super League.
The hooker, who has had spells with both Halifax Panthers and Newcastle Thunder earlier in the season, vowed to make it to the top-flight, a dream that has now become reality.
With veteran Paul McShane switching to halfback, the 23-year-old has grabbed his chance with both hands, scoring in the defeats to Toulouse and Huddersfield across consecutive games last month.
And he is grateful for the opportunity to make his mark with York.
“It’s really good,” Inman enthused. “I’m really enjoying it.
“It’s been my ambition for a few years to get to Super League, and I don’t take it for granted. I love doing it every week.
“I wake up every day, and I get to come in and get better at rugby, it doesn’t sound too bad!
“It’s definitely different to what I was doing before. I was part-time rugby, and on a building site, so it’s definitely better.
“Most days I’d tell the others there that I’d make it to Super League, so it’s a nice touch.”
Making his top-flight bow with York is something of a full-circle moment for Inman, having made his maiden first-team appearance for the club during a loan from Warrington Wolves in 2022.
“The club gave me my first senior appearance, and then they gave me my Super League debut, so it was like a full-circle moment,” explained the hooker, who made nine appearances for York in the Championship during his first spell.
“I came in four years ago, but there’s still some boys who were there then – Jordy (Thompson), Ata (Hingano), Liam (Harris), Myles (Harrison), Brad Ward.
“They were in the Championship at the time, but now they’ve got to Super League and it’s a great thing for the city of York.”
