I take a passing interest in US politics and the 2016 race is shaping up nicely!
The republican candidates (all 17 a this time) will be fighting it out, and usually swinging to the right to gain the nomination. They then have to swing back to the centre for the actual election (something for Labour to think about?).
The Democrats have 8 candidates, though Mrs Clinton is in the prime seat.
And then throw in Trump!
By 2017 we could have Trump and Johnson running our 2 countries....
When Labour wants to propose someone for a peerage, they ring her on the phone. She then gives them an oral "yes" or "no" as to whether they are likely to get through vetting. The party accepts her verdicts, but there are no records and she never explains herself. There is simply no check on what basis she performs the first sift on House of Lords membership.
