EQUALIZER
Bearing in mind we all well the losers always dismiss the Boxing Day match as irrelevant. It always seems a bit sad due to a a trophy being at stake and particularly as it's named in memory of a good lad and decent player. Would it be better to move the trophy to Good Friday and so give it a bit more importance
Bill H
I can see your point, but it would make the popular Boxing Day match even more irrelevant. I would rather big the Boxing Day match up given that it attracts quite a few people who are not diehard fans.
Blind side johnny
Sadly both have been diminished, even demeaned, in recent years. I do know that many coaches would rather not have such fixtures at all - from a coach's point of view this makes sense; from a spectators' and cash-generating position the games are vital. It's a difficult call. Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change. 9' oller
The repeated boxing day victories are lovely but the loses to lowly rams in 2017 were very hard to swallow 'Shaw cross juniors, Birkenshaw, Mirfield, Heckmondwike Panthers, Stainland Stags and then the Heavy woolen donkeys... Was worth all the anxiety over relegation.
