SAM BURGESS has thrown fresh doubt on Marc Sneyd’s future at Warrington Wolves, saying no decision has yet been made on whether to keep the veteran halfback.
Sneyd, a three-time Lance Todd Trophy winner with more than 350 career appearances to his name, is out of contract at the end of the season having signed a two-year deal when he left Salford Red Devils last March.
Warrington captain George Williams is heading for the Dolphins in the NRL but they have secured a stand-off replacement in Leeds Rhinos’ Brodie Croft.
Croft and Sneyd formed an effective halfback partnership when they played together at Salford, however the latter will be 36 when next season kicks off and has fresh competition from homegrown stars Leon Hayes, 22, and Ewan Irwin, 18.
Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester following Croft’s signing, Burgess said: “We’ve had a plan and a process in place for a long time, we’ve had possible targets, and Brodie’s always been in that.
“For now, on contract (next season) is Brodie, Leon and Ewan. I think between the three of those guys for now that are on contract, they’re more than capable of getting a job done.
“With Marc, it’s whether we decide we want the experience around as well. It’s not something that we’re making a decision on now, but as the year unfolds, it might be something we look to do.”
