  1. Not official yet but according to posters on the French forum Catalan's viewing figures on the station thus far have been. 200,000 for the live games against Saints and 442,000 for the game against Castleford. Both good audiences if this is the case and the Cas one especially when you consider it was recorded. Imagine if both TO and Cats were on L'Equipe. Can the French posters verify those figures and also tell us what impact the coverage has had locally?

  3. The RFL needs to do 3 things immediately :- 1. Pay the players what they are owed from Toronto, whether thats directly or via the Benevolent Fund 2. Terminate their contracts with Toronto with immediate effect and make them free agents and salary cap exempt for the rest of this season (as they did with Celtic Crusaders players) so they can resume playing elsewhere. 3. Launch legal action against Argyle for repayment of the costs under the Personal Guarantee he signed and lodged with the RFL when Toronto were first admitted.

  5. There were a minority who just rubbished the whole thing, however most i saw were just voicing legitimate concerns. After all, the issues around TWP were around long before Covid-19 struck. From the late payments of transfer fees for MCB, Westerman, GOB and Springer, to the ultimately never paid £100k investment into London Skolars that was promised, to later wage payments on multiple occasions blamed on admin errors and Reni Maitua going public on visa concerns after he left. All these were dismissed in a way they wouldn't for any of the member clubs because on the opposite side of the

  7. Others had already corrected you on this, but to add... Cumberland clubs Millom and Haverigg switched in 1896-97 alongside the Furness clubs with which they were more geographically aligned. The west Cumberland clubs started to move to the Northern Union from March/April 1898, with Workington, Wath Brow and Maryport being the first. In September 1898 Workington and Maryport joined the NWL alongside Askam, Barrow 'A', Dalton, Lancaster 'A', Millom and Ulverston. In 1899 the Cumberland Senior League began, underpinned by a Junior league, and for a few years, an Intermediate compe

I think one of the biggest alarm bells for me was when they cutbthe broadcasting of those handful of games last year, breaking yet another commitment of theirs, this one being that all games would be broadcast. It is interesting to hear people who criticise the current TV deal as it stopped TWP getting every game on TV (and their argument was this is an absolute must in NA), also defended TWPs decision at that time. This was apparently to save a billionaire a few thousand. Of course the narrative came up that Sky would only show it on red button, before they confirmed that wasn't t

The shortsighted stupidity of RL and flat-out greed of SL owners boggles the mind... I would far sooner watch RL than RU, but if that's the only rugby I'm going to get that's what I'll take.

  10. Hit the nail right on the head. This is so true, if you criticized TWP you were anti expansion but if you were totally blind to their shortcomings then your missionary zeal was equally damaging. The truth is that for every positive that TWP brought to the game, and there were many, the sheer level of incompetence and mismanagement off the field was staggering. There were plenty of alarm bells, but for some reason they were ignored and now we are where we are. I also suspect that Mr Argyle, having failed to get his own way and failed to get his TV deal has now just said enough is enough and the

Or maybe the Union club are built on some sort of foundations rather than dollar bills and actually run the club properly rather than just gob off about what they're going to do and how they're going to do it and how everyone should stop what they're doing and stand in awe as the pack ran...... Away! It's all very well looking for a blame and playing a victim, but Argyle and the Wolfpack have to accept that they messed up too and accept some of the blame for the embarrassment.

All the logistical issues around the weather and travel were dealt with, and the financial growth needed to make the club sustainable was a pittance in the bigger picture of pro sports. In some ways the weakness of SL was the reason why it might have worked. People were interested in watching "pro rugby" and for once, league happened to get in there first, showed some flexibility that bigger sports were unable to, and established a brand. It was never gonna be comparable with the NA major leagues, but then

  15. In signing that PG I'm sure Argyle is well aware that he can throw more cash at legal bills than the RFL can afford. It will go nowhere - the RFL did the right thing, they asked a billionaire (does anyone actually know how much money this chancer has or is he a "billionaire" in the same way people said Marwan Koukash was? Not bad-mouthing MK but he's clearly not a billionaire and his own ego-trip is neatly manifested in the club mascot introduced during his time at Salford) to provide a personal guarantee that players would be paid if things went wrong. He is a dishonourable disgrace fo

Some of the people who've replied to this on Twitter are bitter little people who'd be first whining if they had a similar thing happen to them, if only they had the talent and skills rather than just being bitter little people. The sport invited them in, it's our mess, we have to fix it, even if it's to simply make sure it doesn't get worse.

  17. a transatlantic league will work if ALL the involved participants want it to work. Clearly some did not and refused to share the income derived from the competition regardless of the fact that one of the participants, an attractive one if viewing and spectator numbers are to be believed, enabled that income to be earned. That fact and a pandemic are the reason the current Wolfpack problems have manifested themselves..certainly DA and his fellow investors and management screwed up by not ringfencing the funds needed to sustain the club but a new business model run by professionals can work but

  19. Did they lay them off after not paying them for three months having promised them they would? Wolfpack were cutting costs long before COVID - it's a handy excuse for someone whose grandiose proclamations were already ringing hollow. I have no doubt he had been hit by COVID, but why does a billionaire with a focus on developing a global megabrand pull the plug on televising the team for a few grand last year? It was all bluster based on nonsensical ideas of enormous sponsorships and North American TV deals that were never remotely realistic.

  21. Apparently the extra 242000 only tuned in to watch Israel Folau standing up. Seriously though, great news and hopefully it can be maintained. TO in SL would make a TV deal easier to sell there as it would provide the option of a SL game each week for French viewers. Given the ongoing nature of Covid and fewer people doing other things with their leisure time probably until well into 2021, this is an opportunity to drive up TV audiences and engage people with RL both in France and here.

  22. The morality of leaving folks stranded and up sh it creek leaves a very nasty taste in the mouth. whilst I feel for Toronto fans and the loss of potential growth, the game is better without the likes of argyle. I am of course making a very broad assumption that Argyle is not stranded without means of supporting himself or has been evicted from his home.

  23. Defensively Scott has been excellent, but he's never given us the same offensively and since his knock with Scotland, he hasn't been the same fullback. He's a super lad always the first to come and thank the fans but we are slipping further down the table. We can't keep doing the same thing expecting a different result as Einstein said. After 7 & 6 the number 1 shirt is key and I think Hooley shows some promise. All this aside we need an injection of quality and speed into the team if we are to keep our place in the championship next season!

  25. Times are forecast to get really tough in the U.K. and regional sport might be the only option for RL outside Super League unless there’s a medical breakthrough relating to COVID-19. I feel sorry for Ottawa, but the timing isn’t right now for their plan. We need to save as many Championship and League One clubs as possible and not burden them unnecessarily.

  26. I agree with your comments about what the RFL should be doing, although let's not forget that the RFL in reality is basically just all the other clubs, so they aren't about to start paying one club's wages. I don't agree it was "blindingly obvious" that this was always going to go pear-shaped. David Argyle IS a very rich man and has poured more money into English rugby league over the past 3 years than any other individual - and by a country mile. We can't just ignore that, and if it wasn't for COVID, I believe none of this would be happening. However COVID did happen, which destro

  29. if the team is bought and survives I think theyd be better off going back to Championship than continuing in SL with a significant points deduction. They'd likely be relegated at close of 2021 whereas if they regroup and renew the squad they could then perhaps negotiate a fairer deal with SL. Gives the RL time to design an expansion strategy that works for all the existing and proposed teams.

Except I didn't because I feel the need to return after reading the so predictable laughable stuff here, I just can't help getting involved when I see people acting like fools. 36. Rather than an excuse I think it’s a combination of things. Covid has hit Argyle not just at the Wolfpack but across all his business, he was using the money those businesses were making to part fund the Wolfpack, they are now losing money too. On top of that Toronto are receiving no central funding and were due to play 0 home games, their income will be £0, but their costs haven’t been reduced like other clubs as they have no access to the furlough scheme, so the Wolfpack probably have the highest outgoings and the least coming in from and Super League club. Wolfpack early - we want to play our early games in big European Capitals, it will be a carnival of RL! Wolfpack a little later - actually, we're playing at Saracens but that is still good isn't it, London and all that. Time and time again we are told there is a live cap monitoring, how can those in charge not be aware of the situation? There is an issue with non UK clubs going bust as players have no redress from the government pot.

  46. Effectively, we've got a game-wide scientific experiment going on to decide the future of scrums. A decision needs to be made at the end of the season (across the sport) to decide what form (if any) scrums should take in the future. I am now firmly in the 'scrap the scrum' camp after initially being reluctant to write off such a fundamental and historic part of the game, risking increased repetitiveness. We'll see what happens. At the moment, I've not missed them. It would be good to banish them as it would mean finally cutting the apron strings to mother RU. They would find it more
