  1. Yes, mileage restriction. I'm currently 6k lower than my limit, so no issues there. If is bought one, the lack of milage restriction would be offset by increased maintenance costs and depreciation the more it's used. Don't scratch it, well obviously. I'd expect to look after one bought exactly the same, so absolutely no difference.
  2. My lease costs me £340 per month, no deposit. For that, all I need to do is charge the car for 3 years. If I bought a car, it would cost as a rough estimate £1k per year to tax, insure, mot and service. That leaves me with £260ish per month for a loan to buy one, which equates to around £9k over 3 years. That buys me a fairly old car, with the inherent risks of breakdowns and further expense, but does after the 3 years leave me with something with a residual value, albeit probably mot much. It also costs me more to run in fuel costs. Based on that, I'd far rather have the certainty and reliability of the new car. Same as with the electrical v ice argument, different options are most appropriate for different people.
  3. Same as with electric cars then. For some people they make perfect sense, for others they don't.
  4. Can you buy a comparably aged petrol or diesel for a couple of grand? We run a mixed fleet of Renault zoes and small electric vans (I forget the model) at work. Run throughout the day, plugged in overnight. They're great, and save a fortune on fuel bills.
  5. Had a journey today that for the first time in 2+ years of running an ev I'd not planned for, so whilst a full charge would have seen me out and home again, we needed to charge whilst out for the first time in months. First stop, 4 chargers but 3 in use. Plugged in, but got an error advising faulty charger. Went a few miles down the road, 2 chargers both in use. Third time lucky, plugged in and topped up whilst we had a brew as planned, enough to get home although charge rates nowhere near expected in terms of speed. It emphasised what I already knew tbh. An ev is great, but won't fit in with everyone's lifestyle and the infrastructure isn't keeping up with the demand from the public nor the government's desire to stop ice sales.
  6. Well worth a visit (assuming it's not been modernised since my 95-98 student days).
  7. Suits me, I couldn't make the game in Sept.
  8. That's the infrastructure issue, not the car. As for breaking down, that's hardly unique to electric cars, and I say that as a jag owner.
  9. I'd agree with that. I meant the net of uphill and downhill in a journey doesn't use more than a trip that's primarily flat.
  10. Living in the heart of the pennines, that's not actually my experience. The energy recovery going downhill broadly offsets going uphill when compared to an average flat journey. The real difference is that electric seem far more efficient for short journeys and less so comparably at speed. That makes the long journey impact worse but actually means they'd be great in a urban environment.
  11. I have an electric car, I'm aware of the pitfalls. For many people they won't work at present because they don't fit in with their lifestyle and charging infrastructure is the main reason behind that. Buying one and then complaining about the range or running out of charge is like me riding my motorbike and complaining when I get wet in the rain.
  12. Not enough chargers agreed, especially the further north you are. Agreed on advertised range, although that is no different to ice cars. As for running out of charge, why is that any different to running out of petrol or diesel. That's user error, not the car. Laptop on wheels: the AA, etc. clearly need training to catch up with technology, and again it's not just electric cars nowadays that are full of computers.
  13. There's a poster on the Fev page who regularly likes to remind everyone he's nearly 90 and started watching Fev in 1930 something.
  14. Sorry to hear that. His son was my age or thereabouts and our paths crossed as kids. He was also known by members of my family, though they're not longer with us to pass on condolences. RIP
  15. Stunt driver, Ken Block. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motorsport-rallycross/car-stunt-supremo-ken-block-killed-snowmobile-crash
  16. Rob burrow and Ryan Verlinden. I'd suggest that's evidence enough that size doesn't matter.
  17. https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/03165021/filing-history That's probably your lot, I can't see the club publishing more than the statutory requirements require.
  18. It was terrible here for that earlier this afternoon. I'm staying inside!
