  1. Was watching the HKR v Leigh game this morning and saw that Cas was losing 0-30 to Saints. An updated score hadn’t been on for a while when the daughter walked in and said ‘just got a text from Adam - cousin from Cas - and he said the score finished forty thirty four!’. I couldn’t contain myself thinking Cas might have achieved the biggest comeback since Lazarus. So I said ‘did we win’. Daughter looked puzzled and said slowly ‘four to thirty four!’. Need to have the old hearing checked.
  2. Father-in-law who is 82 arrived from the UK two weeks ago. Last Friday he, me and youngest daughter, tested positive to Covid. Yesterday although he felt well he still had a cough so the wife rang our Doctors to see if she could make an appointment for him for a check-up. One hour later he was being seen by a Doctor and was told everything was OK but was given some anti-biotics. It cost $40 - about £20 - for the consultation and $11 - £5 - for the anti-biotics Father-in-law said that he would be happy to pay £20 if he could get an appointment the same day back in Cas.
  3. A quick question about the disallowed try. If the Wakey player HAD RUN over the dead ball line before the ball was touched down, but was within 10m of the touchdown, would a try have been awarded?
  4. So are you saying that there are around 80,000 pubs offering jobs in greater London? As the Pub Landlord states ‘They are bred for it!
  5. Ayup GeordieSaint, I spent the first 42 years of my life in Cas so I fully understand how RL is perceived and portrayed in the UK. However, in Oz the Politicians are very wary about the increasing sphere of influence of the Chinese in the region and supporting RL in PNG is a shrewd move. Many on here, including myself, have made suggestions about how to create and grow an annual NH tournament but it will need time to establish itself, and time is something that RL never appreciates.
  6. …… and England v France with a begging bowl!
  7. Farmduck, looking back my post wasn’t very clear. I was after the names of the squad that represented the under 19’s British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) tour to New Zealand in 1983.
  8. Out of interest does anyone have the names of the under 19’s squad that toured New Zealand in 1983?
  9. Yes, SL clubs have been to Florida for pre season games and I think the Rabbitohs played against SL opposition. The big difference is that the NRL double-header in Vegas is for competition points in the NRL opening round. The investment - and I don’t know who is paying for this - is apparently $200 million for games to be held in Vegas up to 2028. The double-header is to be played in the 65,000 capacity home of the NFL Las Vegas Raiders so you will be able to see how many people turn up to watch.
  10. Just watched it as well. A well put together piece. Best of luck to both teams tomorrow.
  11. Simple. If it was to start again in 1895 I would send the RL officials down to South Wales with a bigger stash of money than what the RU lot took to persuade them to stay playing Union.
  12. It’s really funny watching some of the bench press brigade wander into a pump or HIIT class that I attend with the wife. They pose in front of the mirrors, preen themselves, then after a few minutes they are absolutely cream crackered
  13. Well I am sat patiently by the phone hoping to get the call to coach my home town team. If I do get the nod, it will take me an around a week to book a flight and get over there. But don’t fear. My wife is in Cas at the moment visiting her Father so she could take training until I get there. The only problem is that she does 2 Zumba classes a week, along with 2 Pump sessions and a HIIT session. So she might bu$$er them out before I get there!
  14. It depends on how you look at international squads for such a tournament. Certainly Catalans - along with Toulouse - would provide the majority of the French squad. But, how many of the Catalans regular game day 17 are eligible for France? 8 or 9? Therefore other Catalans players called up to represent France are not playing week in and week out. In addition, of the other players, there is probably only McMeekan that would make another nations squad. But you could argue that Saints and Wigan could each have a similar number of players of their regular game day 17 across the England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales run on teams if there was 2 or 3 Groups in a summer based NH international window.
  15. It must have been an article in an RL paper where I remember a suggestion that a South African team might be possible for SL as I distinctly remember a comment about South Africa being on the same timeline as the UK so games would be easy to show live in the UK.
  16. You have to start somewhere. ATM the only way to create an NH mid season tournament is to accept that England will win comfortably and move on from there. A mid season tournament would give Shaun Wane the opportunity to try out some fringe players prior to the more testing end of season internationals. If France put out their strongest team then that will be a reasonable test.
  17. I fully support a proper international strategy for the NH. With the proposal from the IRL focussing mostly on the end of season period and if IMG/RFL go with a reduced fixture list then a summer based NH tournament could be held. Start off by having 3 groups of 3 teams. For example …. Group 1, England, France, Ireland. Group 2, Scotland, Wales, Italy. Group 3, Serbia, Greece, Ukraine. Have P&R between the leagues. You could play the games over just 2 weekends if you have a game on a Saturday, Wednesday and Sunday. Ok, two teams out of three will have a shorter turnaround between games but that is no different from a league team playing on a Sunday then a Thursday. Or over 3 weeks if time dictates. Games to be played in one country of that group. Flights or coach travel across Europe is relatively cheap. Playing over 2 rather than 3 weekends keeps accomodation and subsistence costs down. Pro’s and Con’s - The game showcases an annual well planned international program that can grow over the years A 3 team tournament with P&R gives a relevance to every game. With the WC reducing to 10 teams an annual NH summer tournament gives teams that miss out on the WC the chance to keep playing regular meaningful international RL and improving their standards Offers countries the opportunity to drive standards in their national league Offers opportunity to bring in sponsorship IF there is a commitment for a long term annual tournament and for respective countries to offer sponsorship for the national team Offers a pathway from local comps to be able to represent their country through regular international RL Lifts the profile of the game in competing countries and could drive the expansion of the game and increase participation levels in competing countries. England will easily win it! Of course they will to begin with. The overall objective is to create a tournament where someday England will not win it. That is real progress. Using Englands superiority as a blocker to international games is criminal. That superiority should be embraced and used to drive standards elsewhere. The BIG problem with our sport, from administrators to supporters - and some on here - is that there is acute embarrassment; followed by a need to apologise; followed by a knee-jerk reaction if one team wins every time or there is a blow out score. So what! Promote the game, do not use England winning it as at excuse to hide. Who will pay for it? Who knows, but there is more chance of gaining new sponsors to the game if we actually do something. But Whitehead, Farnworth, Young will not be released by NRL clubs. Is this really a good argument to stop a competition? If you played an England international outside the so called heartlands then people being targeted to attend won’t give a toss. Anyway, I will now enjoy the rest of my day off work.
  18. Wasn’t a team from Perth once mooted as potential entrants into Super League along with a possible team from South Africa when SL was first proposed. Or have I been eating too much cheese before bedtime?
  19. Imagine beating someone 10-1 in your opening match and you still do not qualify from your group ……… and neither did the opponents you beat so handsomely! 1982 World Cup Hungary 10-1 El Salvador.
  20. ……. who would form a half-back paring with Mason Rivel Lino!
  21. Last night on Channel 9 was the program 60 minutes. The program is regarded as one of Australia’s leading current affairs program. The main topic last night was an interview with Wally Lewis who revealed that he has been diagnosed with probable CTE. I didn’t catch the program but it was referred to on the radio this morning as there was a big argument about an AFL player who appeared to have a bad concussion on Saturday night but was given the OK to go back on the pitch. On the radio discussion they mentioned that on the 60 Minutes program Lewis was asked by a physician to remember 5 words. A couple of minutes later he was asked to recite those words. He managed to remember 2 of them. He was again asked shortly after and could only remember one word. Apparently Lewis has signed a document that gives permission for his brain to be donated to science to check for CTE.
  22. Interesting read regarding using a round of the CC to replicate the existing Magic Weekend. I found the comment left by GenieJJC to be worthy of highlighting. To precis their comment. Play the round of 16 - four games a day - at the same venue over a weekend. The top 8 from the previous seasons SL automatically qualify for the round if 16 and the bottom 4 of that year play in the round of 32. Pre-draw the fixtures for the round of 16 at the start of the season so at least the 8 SL clubs that qualified directly know when they will play and hold the round of 32 at least a month prior to the weekend so the other 8 qualifiers have time to sell tickets. Would this mean that more people attend because of the ‘winner takes all’ knockout format than just a league game at stake?
