NW Crusaders takeover...
gogledd replied to Pen-Y-Bont Crusader's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
We've tried Saturday games...sometimes it works (vs Oldham last season for example) and sometimes it makes very little difference. Most people I speak to tend to prefer Sunday games but I accept thats not a scientific sample! -
One of the young players from Wrexham has a contract...but hes not come through any North Wales clubs. Ralf Roberts has always played his rugby league in the North West of England and has always been a league player and has no RU connections....hes been a Crusaders fan since he was very young!

Cardiff Blue Dragons? Not city centre but not that far out of the city.
-
There were teams at Bangor Buffaloes, Clwyd Cobras, Conwy Celts, Mon Knights, Flintshire Falcons, Rhyl and Prestatyn (Panthers?) and Wrexham Crusaders who all fed into the North Wales Origin regional side but I'm not sure how many are still active. North Wales Buccaneers have increased player numbers at Masters RL level and North Wales Crusaders still have two squads playing Wheelchair RL and the womens team completed their second season in 2024. https://www.northwalesrl.com/

The all new 2025 Kit Thread!
gogledd replied to Gav Wilson's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
A lot of fans are asking the same thing! The St. Davids flag is a gold cross on a black background, and North Wales Crusaders have more often based their kit on the St..Davids flag (see the club badge) or the Draig Goch..no idea where the blue kit came from but it will be a question the new owners will be faced with as its Eggchaser who are supplying the new kit which they've designed. Personally, its not one of my favourite Crusaders kits but I'll wait to see it in real life before deciding whether to buy. -
We are STILL North WALES Crusaders despite the buy out by a company from Surrey! North Wales Cru are also playing Widnes on 10th January with an evening kick off.

NW Crusaders takeover...
gogledd replied to Pen-Y-Bont Crusader's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
My worries too. The one hope is that the new owner gets to see that Rugby League is a tremendous sport. Hes a young entrepreneur and probably doesn't view the differences between union and league in the same way we do. Lets hope he can bring his business experience to our benefit anyway. As you say....only time will tell... -
Do the figures include Wheelchair RL, juniors, minis and Masters RL? There are mens teams playing in North Wales too.
-
The could also be Wheelchair RL players and just play rugby league...

NW Crusaders takeover...

One of the first social media post is regarding recruiting 6 to 18 year olds for a Rugby 7s Academy!! Not what I was expecting for North Wales Crusaders as there had been a lot of investment in Rugby League minis by the Crusaders Foundation. Disappointed that the new owners haven't promoted rugby league rather than 7's On the plus side the other socials have positive message regarding investment and out signings and receriutment keep coming too. I'm still optimistic; lets wait and see..... -
Yes. Our first three League 1 games are Dewsbury (23rd Feb, 194 miles), Goole (23rd March, 248 miles) and Workington Town (30th March, 350 miles). Including the friendly at Widnes (66 miles) I'll clock up 2164 miles travelling from home (Wrexham)... ..mind you, a home game at Eirias Park is 96 miles for me!
-
Blimey! North Wales Crusaders have drawn Cornwall away on the Challenge Cup and Thunder and Goole in the 1895 Cup..thats a total of 1306 miles for me for just our first 3 games!

Jack Houghton returns to North Wales Crusaders after his spell at Swinton Lions

Couldn't you find an older opponent for Jake? -

It has been very quiet after the End of Season Awards! I guess things may get busier in the run up to Christmas.
-
North Wales Crusaders started selling season tickets at the last game of the season - at £99 for the basic entry to each League 1 game model. There are the price points available too. I think they had reasonable take up, and are hoping to push sales again in time for Christmas.

What are retired players doing now?

European Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers
gogledd replied to Gomersall's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
I think Swinton played the weekend before the friendly/ warm-up game vs Jamaica in Neath. It was then a week later that Wales played in Carcassonne.... but I get the principle and both governing bodies need to be far clearer on what is acceptable in selection for full internationals...particularly as there was only one European place available for the World Cup. -

I wouldn't disagree...but I'll add a shout for Billy Walkley who gave Wales a lot of zip and seemed to be involved in anything productive for Wales -
France vs Wales - thoughts and feelings
gogledd replied to welshmagpie's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Thanks @welshmagpie...I'll add my few euros worth..... Just arrived back from my 6 nights in France. I went to the both sets of games in Carcassonne and Perpignan. I stayed in Carcassonne which made for a very long day of travelling to and from Perpignan and I'd try to do that a bit differently if I had to do it again. I've been to Carcassonne a few times previously so I was used to the city and the people, and it was good to get reacquainted with the pubs and restaurants. Yesterday we met up with old friends from Catalans Dragons and visited what was a new ground for us in St. Esteve...I was a bit surprised at how poor the playing surface was...I've played Masters RL on better pitches in north west England!; it was a poor ground for a World Cup qualifier and I think the French governing body own more respect to the players and the competition. The people there were great and the French fans were very welcoming. A few days now needed to get my liver functioning properly again! -
One try may have been chalked off on VR, the first would probably have gone up as a try and have been given. The second - the tackle probably was just before the ball was grounded... just! I definitely think Collins deserve Player of the Match....Hawkins was pretty much played out of the game in the second half.

I know Owain Abel is still awaiting treatment for his injury. The squad list for France has been released, as follows: Max Clarke (Barrow Raiders), Elliot Kear (Batley Bulldogs), Samual Grice (Castleford Tigers) Harry, Boots, Matt Ross (Cornwall), Curtis Davies (Dewsbury Rams), Connor Davies (Halifax Panthers), Billy Walkley (Keighley Cougars), Ashton Robinson (Leeds Rhinos), Sam Bowring (Midlands Hurricanes), Ben Evans (North Wales Crusaders), Joe Coope-Franklin, Finley Yates (Salford Red Devils), Josh Ralph (St George Illawara), Ant Walker, Rhys Williams (Swinton Lions), Will Evans, Huw Worthington (Whitehaven), Mike Butt, Matty Fozzard (Widnes Vikings).
