  1. I think, and this was 25 years ago so struggling here, but I think we played you in our first game? I have a memory in the second half of lining up a centre running at me and thinking "right, I'll have him!", dropping my shoulder and getting completely done over by a massive side step. I sat there on my a%^e while I watched him go under the posts. Please tell me that was you
  2. On itv, yes. I remember I think watching a charity shield game at anfield where he commentated. Not sure it was on national ITV, as think I was visiting Oop North at time. Think he'd be a really good addition to the C4 coverage.
  3. The exact same! Brum 97-00. We might have been on the same team 25 years ago! Wow, small world. I think I played two games, well one and a third. I was swiftly dropped when someone with vaguely any ability and athleticism showed up.
  4. Dave Woods was singing Northumbria's praises on the cup coverage at the weekend. Saying what a great team they were and great set up.! I can see they have a few players in there. I'm sure that St Mary's used to team to beat in the south, but they seem to have disappeared somewhat. I find it quite difficult to follow the University results these days. The RL site doesn't seem to get updated at all. It's a shame when you see how slick the BUCS RU exposure is. It would be great to see this north v south game on youtube or Ourleague I'm proud, and also slightly embarrassed, to say I played BUCS level League a long time ago. The Uni was a very well established redbrick, but like many at the time had effectively banned League up until just before I arrived, so the League team was very new, not very good, and that's how I managed to blag a game or two. I wouldn't have got a look in 2 or 3 years later!
  5. Did Ottawa pay money for their licence? If so that must have been a nice little windfall.
  6. Isn't it acknowledged that if a game is on TV the attendances are generally better? Do we know who the presenters are yet? Hopefully not George Riley.
  7. The ground in Penzance is even nicer! And, in Cornwall perspective, a lot nearer.
  8. Just heard former Arsenal goalkeeper and Grandstand stalwart Bob Wilson on R4. I'm sure I heard his obituary a few years ago. He sounds very alive and well!
  9. So as the first draft is supposed to be happening now in Brisbane, can we officially pronounce this dead?
  10. I fancy watching the Avignon - Carc match so hopefully they will confirm something soon
  11. Are you even allowed to pay players an compete in level 5 community leagues?
  12. Yep. Saw that a while back and keeping quiet. Wanted to raise here but scared what people would say. What division are they in? No one seems to know. I posted a bit if a blind "are they starting a super league south" on another post but I'm sure that isnt what's going on. Not convinced there is a plan... Worried. So, now you've raised the semi pro post theyve put out there (with no indication of what league they'll be playing in for Jaguars hierarchy...) ...thoughts? Does anyone know their plan? What's happening with Bristol and All Golds (and Bath?) next season too?
  13. Ah, sorry. They are calling themselves "Birmingham Moseley" for some reason now, so I thought you meant them
  14. They are: Saturday 13th November INTERNATIONALS England V Australia. Oh, hang on....!
  15. I'm just watching NRL360. The headlines say "Game Saver - V'Landys scrambles to keep NRL Season Alive" - "Game Saved - NRL Caught Off guard by QLD" Paul Kent: "It's disgraceful what the Queensland government did....The NRL has come to Queensland' rescue with 25M revenue.... they shut down all professional sport but kept the horse racing which is a cash cow... yet the NRL got shut down last minute, and it took a long, drawn out process of 12 hours to get the games on again (in Queensland, rejigged 24hrs late). Why? they were already in their bubbles?" Yvonne Sampson: "What's to stop them (QLD) doing this again in Grand Final week?" Do they not see the irony? No one mentioned the world cup once. The word "Hypocrisy" was even mentioned referring to the state government. There was zero opposing view from the Fox a panel (other than Buzz Rothfield saying that they shouldn't now 100% pull the GF from Brisbane, but instead insist on a bidding war with Melbourne). F^&*ing jokers!
  16. I've got the wrong end of the stick then. My mistake.
  17. Sad. Like you say started well. The Jaguars and oxford postponed a fixture due to covid, and they dont seem to have got going again. Has the league official been cancelled, or is it still going then missing the two teams? I did suggest to the jaguars that their view of what had happened was 100% opposite to what some people were putting on certain forums. And they might want to come out with some sort of statement.
  18. That's not how they sell it. I'm not involved with them btw. I'll try and find out more but they told me they didn't know what was happening with the league.
  19. I got the impression the rfl werent really doing their job and no one knew what was going on. The West of England clubs, some of them, appear to have organised their own "plate" and "play off" matches independently from the rfl too. This sport I love, man! Drives me mad.
  20. I was messaging the manager of the Jaguars yesterday. They have played a few matches (I was able to be at one), and would have played yesterday had the RFL not cancelled the West of England league.
  21. Ah, moseley. My old stomping ground before the kids and my move to the shires.
  22. Neither walking distance though = no pints. You are far more committed than I I think. What's the other Worcester team? Is it NEW Ravens? They used to play in Bromsgrove which is one train stop, but I never managed to get down there (kids too young) until they left for somewhere else. There does seem to be a nice pool of middling local teams round here.
  23. I need to buy your book, dude. When you get round to writing it. Can you do a crowd funder thing? I can see me lapping it up by the pool when we are allowed to go on proper holidays again. If I get a bit more involved in the Jaguars, if they keep going, next year, perhaps I can suggest a match that will be 100% on for you to pop by; I'd love Droitwich to be in the book. The set up now is amazing. Bacon butty on me if you do.
  24. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/political-football-why-boris-johnson-is-hell-bent-on-rlwc-going-ahead-20210729-p58dyi.html This is probably the most balanced piece I've read to come from the Australian press (when theyve bothered to report it at all) but it's still so far off the reality of the state of affairs and our mindset here. You Aussies havent got a clue! And your journalism is bad; on a par with ours. Fingers crossed good news on Monday from the world cup committee and it will go ahead without nz and oz. And they'll have to qualify for the next one in France.
