League Express Podcast 15
OnStrike replied to Martyn Sadler's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Totally agree with your thoughts on the grading in this podcast @Martyn Sadler next year has the potential to be a farce which ends in the courtroom rather than on the field. -
Apologies, assumed you were in England

I understand your points but it's important you seek as much advice and help as you can I think. Acorn tenants union may be a good place to start. His age, health etc doesn't give him a pass to do what he wants. He has responsibilities, you have rights and there are laws in place. Really hope it works out for you. As others have said, best not to put my opinions of landlords on here.

Jesus, sorry to hear this. A nightmare situation. Have you tried getting touch with a local tenants union or a larger one such as Acorn? You might be in a stronger position than your landlord thinks.

Yes it's a very unique and possibly old fasioned style, but glad you're getting into it. I found the portrayl of the the relative squalor of the castle, the pointlessness of some of the feuding and fighting refreshing. The medieval superstition and belief in magic is also captured very well as is the lack of knowledge about what is going on even a few miles up the road, never mind in other countries/kingdoms. And (maybe because it was written so long ago) there was a refreshing lack of trying to write our 21st century Western values back into the story. For good and bad, the characters are believably very much of their time. Hope you enjoy the rest -
Championship Meeting #2
OnStrike replied to Blind side johnny's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Interesting. Would that mean less loan players for Championship clubs as SL club fringe/young players now getting plenty of competitive games in League 1? I really hope they don't try and run L1 with just 8 clubs -

Great stuff. For some reason I'm nervous as to whether you'll like it or not now! I might actually start rereading it next week -
That is mental

So if they lose, they potentially go into a playoff to qualify? Think I got that after reading it a couple of times!

League 1 really is unsustainable now. I hope there is a plan in place and we're not just going to try and muddle on with 8 teams in it. Kick in the stomach for Rugby League fans up there, very sad.

Yeah after The World is Not Enough I read her book on the Crusades and the one you mention on the Cathars. The crusade against the Cathars was absolutely brutal -
Not if you're skint!

Wasn't that mainly funded by the Sports Council? So when the government started slashing funding to that body, the RFL had no way of keeping that set up going. That was my understanding of it anyway

If you love Follet's Pillars of the Earth, I'd recommend trying Zoe Oldenburg's The Earth is Not Enough. She wrote it in the 60s I think, set in crusade era France and for my money, the best historical fiction book written about that era. Stumbled across it on a library years ago. The characters have stuck with me ever since and I've re-read it numerous times -
Presser at Headingley
OnStrike replied to fieldofclothofgold's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
If they did a press release there'd be people on here saying 'why didn't they do a press conference? We have to market our game properly'
