BARLA in NCL player embargo

Recommended Posts

There was a rumour going around at an NCL match I attended last week that BARLA will refuse to pick NCL players for any future tours,a sad state of affairs if true, just interested if anyone else had heard the same rumour and is their any truth in it.

That would contradict the membership scheme they are currently trying to get clubs to support would it not?

That would mean that if your club is a paying BARLA member but you play NCL you cannot be selected for a tour?

If thats the case then the question would be...........why become a BARLA member if you hold NCL status?

Just saying   :O

It just gets better the last I knew the NCL were still an associate member of Barla .

So let me get this right a club pays the proposed Barla membership but plays in the NCL and their players can't then be selected for Barla ?

Solvent abuse comes to mind

If true the wrot continues, i know one member has already stood down!

I've said for a long time the association is purposely being wound down and the monies going in one direction..Heads up district leagues change it quick or shut it down yourselves and get you money back because by the time they have finished there will be no eligible members left to vote except one league and one district!!

sorry but that is hearsay and a load of rubbish, as far as i have heard the NCL are questioning why the NCL players are playing for Barla. the info i have recieved states all teams in your club can play in the Barla County Matches and National cup plus with being a member of Barla can play 3 counties and international games as they will be a member of Barla.

For a new poster you seem to know a lot of Barla ins and outs your not Phil Sharpe in disguise are you

if you run a club that obviously you dont then you would have got the paperwork through stating what the membership scheme was about, The Yorkshire Juniors have sent out telling ever body what the scheme allows them to do and as a secretary of a club that plays in both the Yorkshire juniors and Pennine League we will be taking the offer up.

Why not read the in`s & out`s before writing stuff or why not email Phil Sharp (yes i know who he is) and ask Barla before putting gossip on.

Mate, I wouldn't bother on here. It's either all about"look at me and what I've done, aren't I marvellous"or "this didn't happen with winter rugby" or "I hate BARLA/RFL or both".

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

Believe it or not, this forum isn't all about you! As I've said before there are certain posters who's posts offer nothing constructive and follow the same line every time.

Thank you for your valuable contribution.

You see in Lancashire we don't have a problem in saying what we think ,instead of hiding behind posts without substance .

There are plenty of positive posts across the forum most of them from the red rose well we are the superior race

i think i must agree with you terrywebbisgod. i thought i would be able to put my imput in after reading a pile of rubbish gossip murchants that seem to be trying there hardest to bring the game to it`s knees.

Saying all is good at that side of the Pennines is great, dont think the NWC juniors think so with the RFL. All playing leagues at that side of the pennines are under the RFL so why worry yourselves about what Yorkshire, Humberside and the Pennine league are doing within Barla.

I just wish to know when people are saying that Barla give nothing back apart from take money, I aint seen much money coming from the RFL or the NCL , in fact i dont see any playing league giving any money away.

Barla run the Yorkshire cup and the National Cup, they dont run the NCL or the NWC or Cumbria and cant run Juniors and do not have a say how they are run, they have no option but to sit on the fence.

The thread may have been started by a Cumbrian but streight talking is not quite right. people should read the statement that was in the rugby papers and on the Barla website/Facebook before gossiping and getting it wrong with hear say.

ANY club that is a member of Barla is eligable to enter Barla Cup`s and their players are eligable for Barla 3 Counties or International honours.

Just the last thing, why if all at that side of the Pennines is so hunky dory, going well, no problems then why is people talking about another organisation to run amateur rugby. ????

If you actually read my original post I stated it was only a rumour and was only seeking some clarity on the situation, rather than spouting rubbish,I'm certainly not trying to bring the amateur game to it's knees,BARLA seems to have the monopoly on that despite your BARLA is great rhetoric. I just wish to know when people are saying that Barla give nothing back apart from take money, I aint seen much money coming from the RFL or the NCL , in fact i dont see any playing league giving any money away.

Speaking from my own experiences with NW Counties 13-15s (and I'm pretty much sure it would have applied to 8-12s & 16-18s too) I can confirm that we were assisted very well by the RFL in a whole manner of different ways. With free stationary & cards for registrations etc, superb admin and marketing support for developing websites, posters and banners, help both with costs and volunteers for our own League's Finals Days and for our joint Lancashire Cup Finals where they assisted with costs for the venue etc.

The individual Leagues put back into the game by putting on their own Finals Days, supplying medals and trophies to Cup & League winners (in the case of the 13-15s that League commitment alone equated to 12 trophies and 12 x 25 sets of uniquely designed & engraved winners medal each season), Presentation nights, the sponsoring of both the event and transport for the Wars of the Roses games (in conjunction with Charlie Bray & the Yorkshire Juniors) to name but a few.

I believe, as I am no longer involved, that a great deal of money has recently been spent supplying new rugby balls to all teams/clubs registered with the League and this is just an assumption, but I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if they are not supplying all the U14s Origin squads with their kits too.

I personally could never fault the superb support we received from the RFL but, sadly, cannot say we ever received anything even remotely like that from BARLA.

Just thought I'd set the record straight!!

Rugby smith

None of the three Youth and Junior leagues in the Nw are RFL leagues as you put it we are all independant .

We give out £150 of training equipment at each and every monthly meeting in a free draw of attending clubs .

Lancashire cup entry is free .

Our Nwc Cups are also free and this year we have subsidised the cost of the finals DVDs .

Please check your facts and re visit your aims and objectives in joining the debate

Sorry mate but every amateur player and club are under the RFL, once your league has signed the operational rules you run under the RFL, child welfare, referee`s and rules.

The Pennine League have just sent out a statement that they will be paying all Yorkshire & National cup fee`s now for clubs under them.

Think the Coach was right, this forum is ME, ME & ME and sod the rest.

If everyone got together and sorted themselves to work for the good of the game then why does many on here slag everyone else off for doing a job they are not paid to do, Slag the RFL as they are killing the game and they get paid to kill it.

I will ask again but cant see me getting an answer, Why does people want to get rid of Barla and set up a new organisation for amateur rugby when everything at that side of the Pennines is all great, ??? If your league is running well why change it.

They don't want to get rid of it they want it to work for its members. A membership scheme does not help most clubs, i can raise £65 back packing at the local Asda on a Sunday afternoon 1 hour before closing. Admitted you should never look a gift horse in the mouth but its not that a significant eye opener.

Barla can operate better for it members but the management are aged and rudderless. Youth and vision is required and as long as you have the people you have in place now it will go nowhere.

So again we come back to the point, after your £65 saving for entry to cup competitions what does BARLA do for you. But i think a better question is what do you want it to do for you?

Answers on a postcard please Rugbysmith13

We are all Barla people but the board no longer represents the grass roots , the question you should be asking is why have the board lost touch with its membership ?

Sadly BARLA are no longer in touch with the clubs that supported them for so long,  a lot of good people have been stabbed in the back by individuals who wanted total control and even went to underhand tactics to get their mates voted on to the board, jobs for the boys, they held meetings out side meetings,  excluding the true grass route volunteers who just wanted the best for our fantastic game and the amateur clubs.
