Never liked the GF as a way of deciding the champions (as I've said many times already on this board) but if we do have to stick to having it because its what Sky want then the rules can still be tweaked even more to give the team finishing 1st the best possible advantage.

They could automatically qualify for the Final

Instead of a Top 5 have a Top 3 so 1st place gets 1 week off and 2nd & 3rd then play off to join them

Their league point lead also translates to a lead on the final scoreboard. So for example if Saints finish 1st and are 16 points clear of the other team in the final then they get a 16 point lead on the scoreboard to start the Final. A system like this you wouldn't see teams 'coasting' because they would know every league point really does matter.

1st place team gets two chances to reach the GF and they are both at home so they are pretty much handed a GF place on a platter. If they still don't reach the final after that then they don't deserve to be champions.

Giving Saints a three score lead would mean that they have probably won before the game has started which would be a complete turn off for a lot of people which isn't good for what is the games showpiece event.

But if a team is winning 40-0 in an early round, it might stop the cruising/taking the foot off the Gas late in the game, and keep the tries flowing.

Maybe even translate the number of tries into points then? If they score 15 tries to get to Wembley, then they get 15 points on the scoreboard.

Its hardly the same is it for the CC given teams are reliant on the luck of the draw. One team could get draw against all championship clubs and rack up a score 40 Try's and 200+ points while the other finalist could get drawn against other SL clubs in every round and only manage to rack up say 8 try's & 50 points.

The team with 200+ points only got that through being given easier draws. Your proposal only works when playing teams in the same league as yourself

I can't believe you are so gullible as to think I am serious. Your proposal is just as stupid.

Presumably you and the others on here who think the best way of determining the champions is a play off system are also in support of a similar play off system to determine the worst team in the league and hence the team that gets relegated ?

Teams 8-12 should have a play-off. They can play each other once with team 8 getting all 4 games at home, team 9 getting 3 home 1 away, team 10 getting 2 home & 2 away etc. with the worst performing team in this mini play-off series getting relegated.

After all if its good enough to decide the best team by having the top 5 play-off, why shouldn't we decide the worst team from the bottom 5 via a play-off ?

Play offs for champions? Yes. Play-offs for relegation? No. Points advantage handicap in Grand Final, you must be joking?

Strangely we have had the current Grand Final system since 1998, and your bizarre idea of a handicap system for the final has never been suggested, maybe it's because you don't have confidence in Saints in a one off match, such as the Challenge Cup Final, maybe you think your team will bottle it (such as in 2007-2011), either way, keep taking the medications, and come back when reality kicks in x

Your claiming a team finishing 5th from the top should be rightfully crowned as champions if they win all their games at the end if the season play-off's, so why shouldn't a team finishing 5th from bottom get relegated if they lose all their games in an end of season play-off's ?

You can't have it both ways - either a play-off system is best or a first past the post system is best  - So which is it ? Come on make your mind up ? your sounding more & more like one of the useless, indecisive muppets in parliament every day !!!

We had them.. It was called the Super 8's! Although 5th,6th and 7th was deadrubbers.

And now we have a stupid half baked system whereby we have a play-off's to decide the best team but a First past the post system (or should that be last past the post) to decide the worst team.

Only in RL could we end up with such a stupid system !! Just pick one or the other

Only a Saints fan would argue against the system, worried Stains will bottle another final?

For people saying that a straight round robin league system is the best way to decide the champions....

I would disagree. The play-offs in the NBA and MLB consist of a 7 game series in every round. I’d say that’s probably the best way. No doubt about who the best team are if they’re better than all the other best teams over 7 games.

Also, people saying saints would be champions if we had a first past the post system... i’d still disagree. Teams would approach the season completely differently to how they currently do.

Still failed to provide any reasoned argument then as to why there should be a play-off system to decide the best team but a first past the post system to decide the worst team !

You should think about running for Parliament, you sound like an MP by deliberately avoiding providing any sort of reasoned argument to support your point of view.
