I agree it should be the IRL or the nations involved organising these games. Are the NRL allowing this though? The IRL are hampered and hamstrung at every turn and the NRL waste no opportunity to put every other RL body in their place, whether that is the IRL, a World Cup, the RFL and NZRL over mid season tests or arranging NRL internationals for Tonga without asking them and preventing them from arranging their own own.

It is the NRL that benefit from the international games it organises. It is the NRL that sells them as part of its TV deal and benefits from sponsorship, government funding, any grants and ticket sales. It is the NRL that furthers its brand and solidifies its stranglehold on the international game through doing this. The NRL being the ones to pay the players, after receiving all the benefits, is just another form of control.

If the nrl uses the players fund to pay for the international game they should get something back if it makes money, that's whats the players are fighting for.

In saying that at least the nrl are trying to organise some of the international games. International rugby league board needs to go. They need to make a 5 nations cup every year with Kangaroos, Kiwis, England, Tonga and Samoa. It has the potential to make serious money if they're offered a good tv deal and sponsors. Tonga vs Samoa alone has the potential to bring in new viewers because of their rivalries.

I wouldnt trust an organisation run by Mr Vlandys….despite his very effective PR machine.

Its the players that create the wealth…not the overpaid administration.

Disagree. Product creates the wealth. The administrators capitalise the product.

Players on the other hand are participants of the products.

The NRL organise international matches to sell to broadcasters as part of the NRL deal, probably why they don’t want England & want to stick to Southern Hemisphere countries who have to live off their handouts.

The way I see the international debate is:

RLPA wants equitable pay for all players, irrespective of gender or nationality for every NRL organised international or series.

So for earlier proposed tournaments, they are proposing equal pay for male players for a Samoa, NZ and Aus series, as well as the same pay for male players of a PNG, Fiji and one other series.

Then of course, if the Jillaroos were to take on the Ferns, then they would also be paid the same amount of money for playing.

That is admirable and I think this shows maturity for the players to include this in any contract.

On the other hand, do we truly believe that the collective income from all those events would be enough to pay all the players, and more so, run an additional profit for the NRL. I am underwhelmed by that prospect.

The players have received a very large increase to their collective agreement. The NRLW player payments are heavily subsidised by the earnings of the men’s game, so with this precedent, is it not just as fair for the players (with their substantial increase) to fund international male and female fixtures from the same pot?

There have been plenty questioning why there have been no internationals organised by the NRL yet and this standoff is a very good demonstration why this is the case.

In the mean time, England are subsiding the Tonga tour, rather than wait for ann opportunity to tour the SH and this looks to have been a great decision.
