Pie tries
Great stuff. This is how you grow the game - get them playing young…

This is how you grow the game - get them playing young… The best thing that’s happened down here in recent years is the continuation of ‘regional‘ rugby league through the winter. You couldn’t continue the junior leagues past August as Rugby union and football are king - numbers would be non-existent. What WRL have done however is launch regular ‘east’ and ‘west’ camps for players at U14 and U16 level to attend and Co to year honing their rugby league related craft. It’s through this repetition of skill that we will be able to match out English and French counterparts as we grow.
Stainesrover
I think we need to drop all efforts in trying to grow RL in Ireland and Scotland and really concentrate on Wales. A- Ireland have produced Brian Carney and Micheal Ronan in 25+ years. B- I can't think of the last Scottish player to make it in Pro RL in the last 20 years, I mean real Scottish. Wales have produced pages of players since the early 70s, even today they match our youth when it comes to competitions under 16. Fish where there is fish, a good strong Welsh team is so important to our game. There are players there's just need to get it right at the top. Whose this we because the RFL are doing nothing to grow RL in Ireland or Scotland.
Hello
1 hour ago, Damien said: Whose this we because the RFL are doing nothing to grow RL in Ireland or Scotland. Fair point. Also, you should never ever " drop all efforts" , you can always at least chat at no cost to a stranger at a bar somewhere about the sport and try and persuade them to watch a game. Wales is natural for league, just somewhere along the way a wrong decision was made !

Met some Ireland RL chaps when they over last season for challenge cup tie - give them every encouragement, we can’t afford to turn anyone away. Sport in Ireland small but growing nonetheless
