All I want for Christmas is... a lump of coal...

Recommended Posts

On the local Facebook group to my area, a woman posted asking if anyone could give her some coal so she could gift it to her son for Christmas. This sounds cruel until you learn that the reason for this was because her son is really into geology and minerals and had genuinely asked Santa for a piece of coal for Christmas!

I thought this was one of the sweetest and saddest things I'd ever heard in my life and it actually brought a tear to my eyes.

So I was wondering, what other strange and seemingly random things have you heard of being gifted at Christmas?

I got an IOU for my birthday one year from someone I won't name on compassionate grounds. Obviously never claimed on it because that's the sort of thing best left in the past.

My birthday is very near Xmas and as such tight family combine presents one aunt used to send me a £25 cheque to cover both. She was told to split presents but wouldn't. Eventually my mum started sending combined presents to my cousin for her spring birthday. The lesson was learnt.

You were lucky.

Even my Mam would say to me " I've got you a shirt. It's for your Christmas AND your birthday"
