Have you seen swede called rutabaga in Cov then? I never have.

Mind you, whatever you call it, it should be placed straight in the bin to cut out the middleman

It's them manglers of  English across the pond.

And speaking of manglers of English, for once the Scots are right by calling swede turnip.

By the way, I don't take to kindly to somebody from Inkley picking me up me duck.

No, they're not.

A swede is a swede and a turnip is a turnip. What most people refer to as a turnip, (think Halloween lanterns years ago) is in fact a swede - regardless of where you live. Turnips are much smaller than a swede, it's just how they are and local dialect won't change that.

A bit like people calling a Dyson a Hoover is widely said but it doesn't mean a Dyson is a Hoover.

It's a batch here in South Cheshire, but up in Warrington it's a Barm.   A 'cob' is crusty I think?   I'd eat a cob with soup, but I wouldn't cut it in half and put a filling on it.

Definitely a barm in Warrington.

I remember when I first moved to Leeds, ordering a sandwich in a brilliant bakery in Adel, and was asked if I wanted it on a bread cake. I was genuinely confused. I said I didn't want any cake, I just wanted a sandwich with bread, which the staff thought was very funny.

Absolutely true story. Why do Yorkies involve the word cake?

I was in Fish Shop in Cornwall and asked the girl for a fish and a bread cake. Blank! After asking again she hesitated and disappeared out the back. A moment later a women appears looking concerned, "what is it you want" ?

"......Er...... A..... fish sandwich....?" Sorted!

BTW, I once asked for a fishcake in Bradford I got a fish and a fishcake. A fishcake is a cake apparently.
