ghost of uncle fester Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Been looking at the business other clubs are doing ,not only the quality but the sheer numbers of signings Should we be worried by the lack of squad refreshment Yes we have four solid incomings so far, rumoured couple more on top But must say if you look at a hell of a lot of the other clubs there strengthening alot more ATM We obviously can't match what Bradford,York, Toulouse,Fev and Oldham are spending , they'll be bookies favourites as top 5 ,London will still be strong But what worries me is it looks like the likes of Batley, Sheffield,Widnes, Doncaster have notably strengthened Halifax hard to tell how they go but recruitment looks ok, hunslet so far have brought 11 players in so again unknown Again what's worrying in a season when the super 8s are introduced ,to which only top 3 are in the championship is that so many league one clubs are going to be alot stronger Cause for concern or just worrying over nothing ?? 1
The Vet Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 I would have liked to have seen Jake Carter approached, looking at their videos early season he seemed very instrumental in Whitehaven’s good form when they were racking up good wins before the issues came to light 1
Jarc Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Just had a quick look over the 4 sides you said have notably strengthened plus Halifax… not sure I would say anything have notably strengthened there bar Doncaster Lots of signings coming from academies, unknowns from Aus and the relegated teams last year 1 1

This is where the RFL need to be involved to stop another Whitehaven situation happening. 1
blue forever Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 We will yet again be scrapping down the bottom unfortunately. The championship looks to be getting even tougher and signing league 1 players (2 from Keighley, 2 from haven heading into league 1)doesn't fill me with confidence. The rumours seems to have dried up, hopefully the club have more to announce as we're still quite far away team wise I'd say 1

Although I do tend to agree with your thoughts on the two Keighley signings ,but time will tell 1

Greg Burke came from Salford, Ben Evans came from Bradford, Jake Spedding came from St Helens/Sheffield and all really undelivered Whilst if you look at our signings who have kicked on Tee Ritson came from Newcastle, Danny Langtree from Oldham, Ellis Gillam from Whitehaven, Deon Cross from Rochdale etc. 8

Stephen Andrews Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Having spoken to several long standing supporters from Keighley they were all in agreement Ellis Robson was an excellent signing for us. A try scoring second rower who can also play centre with excellent leadership qualities, now who does that remind you of? Personally I hope Stacky does another year with us but if he doesnt Robson sounds a very similar player to me. Alex Bishop had plenty of admirers at Haven before he got injured and again good judges have told me if we can keep him fit we have a player with bags of talent who will go well for us. King and Teare we have seen often enough to know what they are all about and should prove to be excellent additions. Of the players that have left, Magic Mike, Adam Jackson and Greg Burke hardly played so no real loss there. Ellis Gillam will be a major loss for sure and Max Clarke missed half the games last season and despite the odd good performance was for the majority of the time no better than average. With the DR with Salford where we should get some good short term players, a good relationship with Leigh where we may well get Brown and Rothwell at times plus a couple more permanent additions of our own I dont think its all doom and gloom by any means. We cant compete with some of the top teams financially in this league but we have to do the best we can and I feel we are. The late, great, Keith Nutter once told me this pearl of wisdom and he is absolutely right. If you make 6 signings at the start of a season and four turn out to be good youre doing well. That applies to every team not just Barrow. Other sides may be signing lots of players but will they all prove to be value for money? Only time will tell but I very much doubt it. 4
