fevnut’s musings: New article available

The latest edition of ‘fevnut’s musings’ is now available to read.

With no past Fev Rovers v Goole Vikings games to look at we delve into some history of rugby matches between the two towns played by earlier clubs.

The financial problems facing professional clubs outside Super League are getting steadily worse and nowhere is this better illustrated than by what is going on in West Cumbria.

We couldn’t finish this week without lauding the achievement of Sharlston Rovers in the BARLA Yorkshire Cup.

FEV v GOOLE VIKINGS: THE SQUADS
fevnut has published ‘Fev v Goole Vikings: the named squads’.
We find it quite difficult to see the potential shape of the teams in the form in which the clubs publish the squads, so we publish them in positional order.

Ah, the old Birthday Paradox!

The number of people you need to have in a room for it to be more likely than not that two will share the same birthday is just 23. Not sure how many you'd need for the same comment to be true about three people having the same birthday though.

fevnut’s musings: New article available

The latest edition of ‘fevnut’s musings’ is now available to read.

We begin by commenting on the pre-season game against Goole Vikings and what we learnt about our new signings.

We also wanted to comment on the departure of Greg Eden. He had a difficult time in 2024 but nevertheless he achieved some notable performances in his overall career.

Finally, we note something a bit surprising in our 2025 squad.

fevnut’s musings: New article available

The latest edition of ‘fevnut’s musings’ is now available to read.

We begin with some thoughts that arose from the Challenge Cup match against Waterhead.

That is followed by a section about players who are still active even though they are beyond the age that you might expect them to have retired from such a tough sport. Finally, we raise the issue of the floodlights at Post Office Road and give some ideas about how they could be greatly improved without the expense of a completely new set.

fevnut’s musings: New article available

The latest edition of ‘fevnut’s musings’ is now available to read.

We try to work out how significant the pre-season match against Huddersfield Giants was to our likely performance in 2025.

Then, we reveal the new signings and squads of the leading contenders for getting into the play-offs this year and help each of you to judge their strengths with charts showing their new signings and their full squads.

We end this week with a miscellany covering three topics. One of them actually has nothing to do with rugby league but it is about someone who has just died whose work many of you will be familiar with and probably enjoyed.

Just a couple of minor observations that I hope are helpful:
In the "Fixtures, results, teams and trophies" section you have Hardcastle playing right 2nd row and Boothroyd playing left against Waterhead whilst it was actually the other way round (as it was also against Huddersfield), obviously this is a very minor issue but I found the week by week line-ups last year to be very useful as they were, I think, very accurate in terms of who lined up where and that information is generally not available at-a-glance anywhere else. For instance last year's version of this page made it very easy to see how many more tries our left wing scored than our right wing.

Also an even more minor detail but relating to the latest article, the Jack Brown York have signed is a 17-year-old and not the same player who played on DR from Hull KR for us against Swinton last year - indeed, the Brown who played for us is in HKR's 21-man squad to play against York tomorrow night.

Thanks, PH. Yes, last season I did try and get right and left sorted but I have completely forgotten so far this year. Glad you mentioned it and I will try to remember to mark L and R down on my squad lists early in the match!

FEV v INCE ROSE BRIDGE: 21 MAN SQUADS

fevnut has published ‘Fev v Ince Rose Bridge: 21 man squads’.

We find it quite difficult to see the potential shape of the teams in the form in which the clubs publish the squads, so we choose to use guesswork based on last week’s teams to set them out in the traditional manner running from fullback to loose forward and then subs.

fevnut has UPDATED the ‘Championship 2025: Leading Scorers’ page.

To ease viewing Fev players are shown with a navy background and players from our next opponents are shown in a red font. However, as our next opponents are Doncaster and they have only played one match and scored just one try, none of their players yet appear in the charts.

In a few weeks’ time we will add another chart covering just Championship League Matches
