Halifax Panthers sign Jamaica international

HALIFAX PANTHERS have signed Jamaica international forward Delaine Gittens-Bedward as they try to rebuild their squad in the wake of the February liquidation which led to a number of players leaving.

Coach Kyle Eastmond remains reliant on loans as he tries to bite further into the twelve-point deduction imposed as a condition of the return to RFL membership under fresh ownership.

Halifax, bottom of the table as a result of their penalty, go into their derby at Keighley on Sunday on minus six points and having lost three in a row.

Prop Gittens-Bedward, 25, has moved from Workington, who signed him from Barrow ahead of this season after he’d been on trial at Leigh, making his Panthers debut in the 54-0 defeat at Widnes.

He came through the old London Broncos Academy and gained experience with London Skolars and Coventry (now Midlands) before joining Barrow, for whom he played 18 times across two seasons.

His second Wales appearance was in the 36-0 World Cup qualifying defeat by France at Albi in October.

Halifax have also recruited former London Broncos hooker Curtis Davies and Rochdale outside back Ben Will since emerging from liquidation.
