Hull FC fear the worst over Will Kirby injury

HULL FC fear forward Will Kirby will miss the rest of the season after suffering a suspected serious knee injury.

The youngster came off during Hull’s 36-10 home defeat to Wakefield Trinity, six days after a stand-out display against Huddersfield Giants.

Head coach Andy Last said: “There was more disruption in losing Will Kirby, Amir Bourouh and Harvie Hill for head assessments and then Jed Cartwright tightened up (his hamstring) in the second half.

“Amir played a good game, we lost him early to a HIA and was struggling with his vision.

“We lost Harvie, our minutes man, in the middle, and then Will Kirby who played a good game last week and played good minutes. It was a challenging second half and a challenging half-time.

“Will’s in a really bad way. He’s distraught. It’s looking like MCL or ACL (ligaments damaged). It’s terrible for a young lad. Either way, it usually means game over for the season.”

On the contest, Last said: “It was a game of two halves.

“In the first half I wasn’t happy defensively, they rolled us up the field far too easily. In terms of mobility, we didn’t do a good enough job of stopping them.

“Unfortunately we lost Herman (Ese’ese) for ten minutes and they were ruthless in that time.

“We needed to stop them penetrating our line, though. We did that in the second half. It was far better.

“We were struggling to control the speed of then ruck with 13 men, so when we lost Herman and Jeremiah (Mata’utia) for 20 minutes it made things difficult.

“Credit to the lads in the second half to compete like that. I knew they (Wakefield) were going to be good after the Wigan game, but it was disappointing. We’ve just got to dust ourselves down and move forward.

“We made a couple of errors in good ball which didn’t help building fatigue on the other team. We compounded that by giving away some cheap penalties, and that was probably down to fatigue and frustration.”
