Jamie Doran sets injury return target after new Workington Town deal

WORKINGTON TOWN halfback Jamie Doran has been handed a boost after suffering a serious ankle injury in the final game of last season.

The 31-year-old damaged five ligaments, sustaining two ruptures and some splinter fractures, in the game at Goole and had an operation at the end of November.

Doran had already agreed a contract extension with Workington prior to the end of the season, and that news has now been revealed by the club, making him the 24th member of Jonty Gorley’s squad.

Doran said: “The doctor said the operation went really well. He fixed the two ligaments and cleaned out the ankle. I’ve got a boot on for another three weeks and then I’ll start rehab.

“I’ve earmarked the Salford game in March (Sunday 8) so it’s some light at the end of the tunnel, which is the best news I’ve had since I was injured, because I didn’t know how long I’d be out.

“I can’t thank Helen McDowell and the medical staff enough for pushing on with the insurance through the club and getting the operation done so quick.

“It’s stitched up quite neatly as well, and I definitely wouldn’t have got it done on my own, so I owe Helen some flowers at least.”
