As part of our fundraising activities in support of Workington Town RLFC, the Travellers Rest TOWN Supporters Club are arranging this year’s Sportsman’s Dinner, which will be held on Friday 21st October, at the Washington Central Hotel Workington, for which the cost will again be £28 per head.

This year our Guest Speakers will be Mr Iestyn Harris and Mr Martin Gleeson, who will be supported on the night by our regular Master of Ceremonies Mr Howard Nicholson.

I'm sure most folk on here are well aware of these two former players but here's a potted history to remind everyone of their careers:

Iestyn Harris:

A former Welsh dual rugby code international player. His professional rugby league career began at Warrington in 1993 at the age of 17, before a record breaking transfer to Leeds in 1997. He became the first Leeds skipper in a decade to lift silverware when they claimed the 1999 Challenge Cup, where he equalled the points scoring record in a final, with 20 points. He also collected the Man of Steel trophy in 1998. In 2001 he made the switch to rugby union with Cardiff and Wales, before returning to rugby league with Bradford in 2004. His coaching career includes Crusaders, Wigan and Salford at club level, and he was also the Welsh national head coach from 2009 to 2013.

Martin Gleeson:

An English former professional rugby league player. He represented both Great Britain and England internationally as a centre or five-eighth. His clubs include Wigan, Huddersfield, St Helens, Warrington, Hull and Salford. His honours include winning the Super League in 2002 and Challenge Cup in 2004 both with St Helens, and the Super League in 2010 when he was an integral part of Wigan’s season, scoring two tries as they claimed the Grand Final victory over his former club St Helens.

Two outstanding Rugby League professionals, with many stories to tell

This is always an excellent evening’s entertainment and ideal corporate event and we hope you are able to join us this year.

Tables will be organised for parties of 8/10/12, but individual requirements can also be catered for.

If you require any further information at this time, please call Tony on 07850552229, or

01900 63620 or contact any TRSC committee member.

I'm sure everyone is aware of the current push to assist the club in any way possible, this is one of our annual fund raising events and one of our most popular; there's always room for more of course and we're hoping that as many Town fans as possible will join us for another great night, all are welcome.

men only event ???

This is not a men only event but it should be remembered that the language can be colourful to say the least!

Ladies are always welcome as long as they are not going to be offended, knowing our master of ceremonies he will not spare their blushes.

Looking forward to this

Surf dudes with attitudes, (Kinda groovy), Laid back moods. Sky above, sand below (Good vibrations), Feelin' mellow. Won't give it up, Don't wanna stop....Don't wake me up, Don't wake me up if I'm dreamin', California dreams, Just let me lay here in the sun, Until my dream is done
