WAKEFIELD TRINITY coach Daryl Powell was pleased to see his side bounce back in style with their 36-10 triumph at Hull FC.
It came seven days after a heavy defeat to Wigan Warriors and Powell admitted: “We needed to respond and we did that, particularly with the first-half performance.
“We maybe left a couple of tries on the field and could have been more dominant. Hull got their way back into the game and scored again, it was a little bit uncomfortable.
“It was never perfect, but we did a lot to build on and I thought we played with a strong defensive mindset.
“(Hull coach) Andy Last made reference, at start of the week, that they defend their try-line well and disrupt a bit and slow the game down.
“He’s right, it takes a lot of plays-of-the-balls in their 20 to score. While we took a bit of time to score in the second (half), there was some rationale in what Lasty said.”
Wakefield handed a cameo debut to Kian McGann, an off-season signing from St Helens’ academy.
“I didn’t want to put him under pressure, I just thought I need to get him out there,” explained Powell.
“We could have easily put Tray (Lolesio) on the bench but I wanted to give him a look.
“I would have loved to give him 20 minutes, but I just thought it would have been a bit tough for him. That’s probably me being a bit cautious.”
