  1. That is my actual point. The franchise fee and the investment in running a new professional club are not the same thing. İf this group can be / come professional the 23 million would essentially go into central expenditure not local club development and expenditure. Manly Sea Eagles owner, based in New York, has apparently expressed in buying the NY Franchise. İf actual business guys, already involved in Professional Rugby League get involved, there may yet be some to this.
  2. How much is the franchise fee in the NRL and Super League?
  3. Ok, I am always hoping. The partnership of the NRL with its credibility, contacts and branding could make it work. Clearly there are issues and worth discussing but there evidently are some key connections with money. İmagine for a moment. The NRL buys Super League, in doing so creates NRL as a global brand. TOP TİER NRL - Australasia // Europe SECOND TEİR NRL America emerges not as a top tier but feeder comp with direct pathways. NRL 2 South - QCup / NSW Cup and NZRL / PNGRL? NRL 2 North - present championship NRL France - elite one with crossovers with the English league. The centralised identity could be huge, additionally direct pathways for players in particular to the NRL would be massive. ALSO... Although automatic promo / relegation would not exist, if the NRL is in control, with direct exposure and pathway to the top more investors are likely to be involved. OBVIOUSLY...there would be numerous provisos. The NRL is not getting in bed with the RFL, or the USA for that matter without their own guarantees and matters of transparency. Clearly it needs direct partnership with the present USARL, I think that partnership with the NRL will also ensure this happens, rather than a split developing.
  4. There is no chance that Super League would move to Winter. Players are already being restricted in playing minutes per year. HOWEVER, a Global brand for Professional Rugby League is the right path to position as the pre-eminent 'Rugby' competition in the world. İf Super League were to become NRL, with the same primary branding, web portals, social media etc it would make local clubs in Europe a MUCH MORE palatable option for investors. İt would also increase visability and crredibilty for the game, with all the flow on in regard to sponsors etc. This would also ensure the NRL can produce a platform, with little extra expense to sell watchnrl.com subs, dissolving the need for different platforms (of course in theory one could split the sub for north and south) The NRL is already the world's biggest "Rugby" competition in terms of income, this would anchor is as the NFL equivalent in the Rugby World. I live and coach in Turkey and NO ONE in the Rugby League community here follows Super League, everyone follows the NRL. Even when you speak to other coaches in other emerging European nations, it is the NRL and it's clubs that are followed.
  5. Doing something with Turkish Rugby League may be helpful to both. Turkish players struggle to cross borders into Europe (most can't get a visa) however there is very flexible entry to Georgia. Georgia ve Turkey could be a goer. Happy to chat. I am in Turkey (Izmir)
  6. Clearly there was an oversight or something. I suspect it was simply a connection from one of the players who went. HOWEVER ... The NRL is running, with the USARL, the Vegas 9's and offering 20 thousand to the men's champion and 20 thousand to the women's. Those teams involved will also get twenty free tickets to the game. Utah RL have a right to be annoyed but if they are smart they will end up rolling with it because there is too much to gain from being connected to the Vegas events. You can gaurantee the 9's (and masters game) will be the biggest RL event in domestic Rugby League in the USA ever. I think, with the combine, if this can continue strongly for five years and it's links with UFC etc this will end up massive for local Rugby League as well.
  7. I coach in Turkey and would certainly be happy to chat with any group willing to invest in a local club. I am piecing together some proposals for the TRL and would be keen for some element of this approach to possibly be included.
  8. Hey all, I am a coach and help run Izmir Rugby League in Turkey. I have been considering some ideas to present to our board for 2024 to give Rugby League a player and development edge. One of the ideas in my head has been an Under 21's Open trial event in front of atleast one European Club recruitment officer whilst also producing stats and video (like an American combine) To join players would have to have played at least six games of Rugby League in 2024. (I would be looking at late 2024) I am keen on creating a younger development and recruitment pipeline. There are some great athletes here but some additional motivation could be helpful. Some players represent Turkey but imo it is too late and I doubt any recruitment officers are watching. If people have any contacts of coaches or recruitment officers / even clubs in the top two or three tiers that may be interested in some form of link up I would be keen to chat. My goal would be to fly one or two out possibly at our expense (nothing fancy) for 1 - 3 days of development and possible recruitment. Union keeps 'trumping' us with Rugby 7's ( ) representation for Türkiye which I personally think is a little lame but a strong recruitment call. Please message me if you have any contacts.
  9. They should simply make Elite 1 part of the pyramid. Make it initially League 1 equivalent then raise it to Championship equivalent. Each year Elite 1 could take on the Championship Winner. The result could count toward IMG ratings helping entry to Super League. This would also help incentivise investment into Elite 1 directly and possibly even incentivise expansion in close countries.such as Italy and Spain.
  10. Genuine question, why can't Bradford work out a way to play out of Valley Parade? Surely this would give them atleast full stadium points and secure a place in Super League. İt seems clear that nothing is going to change with Odsal so there seems to only be one option moving forward, atleast in the next couple years. Frankly, it would likely be a cheap option for the council to play part as well.
  11. So third last if included in the NRL figures. Chances are Dolphins will increase significantly in the next year or two as well. İmportantly in the above discussion is that individual athletes are going to be as important to profile as clubs. Together they are often more important than the club itself for general engagement.
  12. I actually they need to name the next three NRL locations. PNG NZ Western Australia Then... have a staggered development plan for their introduction. For instance, the promise of an NRL team itself would be HUGE for PNG / Pacific. However, PNG is not about to turn their backs on League. So...Give them atleast a 4 year preparation phase where the government sows that 25 million into development of Rugby LEAGUE structures / pathways and schools. With government support and NRL grant, a PNG team will already be at 40 million income per year. My bigger douct though is their value in TV rights to the wider competition. Also, despite being "crazy" for Rugby LEAGUE, the Kumuls still did not sell out their game against Cook İslands. That actually concerns me, the stadium should be atleast 25 thousand and frankly, given the leg up by the Aust government, they should require atleast 20 thousand season ticket holders (even if really cheap to pack the stands) Perth is the hardest in my opinion but from an Aussie perspective the most important. Back this in the NRL to the hilt. They should be first but with significant support. New Zealand from a player perspective is the easiest but... where is actually harder. Wellington's stadium is not really that good, Christchurch's new stadium will be good. A second option for NZ could be the partial relocation of Sydney teams (3 teams / 4 games each to NZ with ten year guarantees)
  13. I felt this would happen, Gateshead people fought for their club for years, I did not see them throwing in the towel so easily.
  14. They should give it the first year. Even the additional exposure in Australia / NZ would ensure greater value for sponsors. Make it a available.on Kayo and Watchnrl and you have a global product (Super League is not available obviously on Watchnrl due to broadcast rights)
  15. One has to wonder if it is the promotions department and will to simply get a crowd. At present it would be better to get 5000 in the stadium through free tickets then little. Allow people some time and motivation to invest. Wimbledon is a good little stadium and they should look to anchor in there. Cornwall seem to be drawing fairly good crowds considering the League they are in. Getting some form of partnership with Eric Perez and co.
  16. This means Six clubs in Utah alone (7 teams in California I think) Roosters - PCRL Seagulls - PCRL Broncos - PCRL Storm - PCRL Steelers - CRL Spartans - CRL Obviously this is due primarily to the significant Pacific Islander population but it is great to see. I suspect there will be player crossover between some clubs (two clubs in Provo itself - Broncos and Steelers).
  17. Two new clubs added to the Utah Rugby League conference of the Pacific Coast Rugby League.
  18. I think the ONLY road forward in terms of strength is some form of significant buyout and merger of branding, management and marketing. NRL Global (which would mimic NFL as a global brand) centred through NRL.com Two Competitions - One end of year global champ (for women and men potentially) Broadened TV interest from both hemispheres. Broadened sponsor potential due to a global brand and reach. İncreases likelihood of NZ / Australian interest in European games. HOWEVER, let's be honest with ourselves, it would also probably end in some blood letting. Clubs are so fickle now and seek their own agendas. The NRL has struggled with this also but Vlandys seems to have taken ascendancy even over them. İ read the article the other day with Owen Farrel, he noted he loved watching Wigan (sentiment) but which competition did he say he watched "all the games"? The NRL.
  19. The elected individuals are promising given the spread, West Coast (PCRL) Chicago (Illinois Rugby League) Hopefully, it will be part of birthing confidence as the game attempts to move forward. The PCRL now has six teams, and the Utah RL has a Youth program so their integration is important.
  20. New team trying to launch in Miami. I think it is an alternative to the South Florida Speed who play Union as well and have forfeited League matches.
  21. Garbage. Which Christchurch did you live in? Sure, Crusaders are king's but Rugby League is actually well attended. Storm Warriors trial game – March 2023 – 12,000 Manly v Warriors – 2019 - 11,774 Manly v Warriors June 09, 2018 – Crowd 17,357 Panthers v Warriors – 2016 – 18000 (97 Percent capacity) I am not sure Christchurch could host its own team entirely but four - five games, absolutely. The new stadium is also going to require content. Additionally, the NRL has a salary cap about twice that of Super Rugby. Max salary around 200k (obviously All Blacks earn more through rep contracts). A second New Zealand NRL side could be a significant blow to Union in NZ. İ think there are different ways to achieve this but with the right funding and support, it would be successful.
  22. Primacy is only 0.25. The quality of the venue 1.5. Primacy of the venue will be of little help when the venue is a dump they acknowledge needs to be replaced. So long as a club has a strong rental agreement there is very little value in primacy. İn the NRL, only a handful of clubs have sole use of their venue. Could you imagine negating the Broncos, Eels, Dolphins, Warriors, Roosters, South's, Melbourne, Bulldogs etc?
  23. Yep, another USA group of clubs has arisen. Rugby League United. @rugby_league_united - Instagram. Brooklyn Kings Boston 13s Delaware Black Foxes DC Cavalry Also independently Cleveland is playing a Canadian team. So, it seems we have... USARL - ? 3-4? Championship Rugby League - 8 clubs Pacific Coast Rugby League - 4 - 5 clubs Rugby League United - 4 clubs Never seems to end. Ps. Whoever does the graphic design for RLU should ask for help. It is awful. It feels like NARL (bad)
  24. This coming Sunday @izmirzaferi will take on a team from the HMS Albion. They have normally played Union and no doubt will be better than us but we are excited to have this friendly match.
