McIlorum will be out for awhile as Carney said that will have a big bearing on this year's title

Brisbane getting the decisions on both tries.

Therefore Saints are 4pts better than Wigan?

The only way to improve I'd to keep playing and learning from those better than you.

Yet last year that Wigan team drew'with the Broncos this year they are thrashed by a Broncos team a few of whom were having their first competitive game together.

By playing these games it gives us a measure of our game and currently our game in UK seems to be at a low point where it matters on the field. I worry for Leeds today against Cowboys. A year or two ago it felt like the gap between the two leagues had shrunk. That seems to have been a mirage.

This series is a good idea in principle. The SL clubs have to raise their game to make it worthwhile for the NRL teams to travel and play.

What makes it worse is that the SL season is in progress while these aussie teams have yet to get their season underway.

These sort of results play into the hands of the naysayers.

Here's one comment added to a match report of Wigan v Broncos game:

Bill:

Does it really matter? Like the night before, it was just another walk in the park.

Clutching at straws time. Cowboys seem to be slow starters they lost opening three games last year. Hopefully tonight will be close.

That mirage was perpetuated by having only the one WCC game too. Often the SL teams ad already played 4 rounds before the WCC. Even some OZ fans have always acknowledged that the top SL clubs would be competitive in the NRL but some Brit fans have extrapolated this to mean that SL=NRL in overall quality.

There are 2 different questions here:

- Can the current club and league system in Brit RL produce plenty of good, entertaining games of RL? Yes, it can.

- Can the current club and league system in Brit RL produce a league of the same quality as the NRL? No, it'll never happen.

What English referee showing favouritism wouldn't happen anywhere else would it?

Basic error lets Cowboys in in first minute of second half.

The commentators continual repetition of how well Leeds played in the first half was getting irritating when they were losing the second half by 30pts. Sure it was appropriate at HT but, at the 70th minute it just sounded desperate.

Unfortunately we may not have a choice in the matter as the Aussies won't continue unless it is worth their while, it does show what is achievable in the game by way of standards, I doubt these will ever be achieved in this country. I suspect standards will decline as less and less talent comes through the system. On Sky they mentioned the great Challange Cup games, Grand Final etc this is correct as we are all of a similar standard and there will always be good games just not when you play teams with speed, skill, size that can manage intensity for 80 minutes like the best in the NRL
