The QLD premiership clubs for 2022 have been confirmed as - Easts, Burleigh, Central QLD, North QLD, Souths Logan, Tweed, Wests, Wynnum-Manly - the last-named making their debut in the competition.

Which means this year`s losing grand finalists Valleys Diehards will be one season wonders. Valleys launched their team as the beginning of a new chapter for an illustrious traditional club.

It was never explained why the Magpies didn`t field a team in 2021. Next year they`ll return, replacing the club whom they replaced this year. Not sure all this chopping and changing is in the best interests of either club.

The under-19s comp might have more stability. Probably a reflection of the higher number of younger players. There were 12 teams this year and Norths and Redcliffe are recruiting for their inaugural sides.

Intriguing that the Dolphins announced their intention to join the under-19s comp in the midst of the NRL bid process, after previously paying no heed to the female game.

Still no sign of a League Tag comp in QLD. A baffling omission, since the QRL must be able to see how successful LT is in NSW, WA, Vic.

It was the Queensland Pacific RL Carnival at the weekend. Huge success by all accounts, with more than 10 000 people through the gates across the three days.

I`m a bit of a connoisseur of Polynesian names, many of which have religious connotations.

Spotted perhaps my favourite yet in the list of try-scorers for the Maori in the under-16 girls final -

This year's BMD QLD Premiership kicks off next weekend with a 9-round regular season through to the middle of May. The start of the HN NSW Premiership has been shifted to early July, three weeks before NRLW and is being talked of as reserve-grade.

Which makes the BMD the highest standard early-season comp. Some NSW players have signed up. Will any of our English girls play anywhere prior to NRLW?

Fran Goldthorp has taken up her Cowboys 2024 option. New coach with Ricky Henry (Kiwi Ferns) taking charge after Ben Jeffries took the Knights job.

What's happened to Georgia Wilson?

Has Georgia moved Down Under permanently? What does she do either side of the short BMD Premiership season? 

Someone I had noticed in Norths Devils BMD squad is Georgina Tuitaalili. First saw her in a Wellington junior team where she towered over and dominated the boys. Usual pattern, had to give up aged 12, played Union at school. Started playing League again in Maori tournaments, then relocated to QLD where in 2022 she made the Maroons under-19s Origin team. Great to see, but at the same time illustrates the lack of opportunities in most parts of NZ.

Western Clydesdales narrowly won their first BMD Premiership match on Saturday against a CQ Capras team which included Tamika Upton and the Southwell sisters.

The Toowoomba-based outfit have recruited a number of NRLW players and could be genuine contenders. Returning local products Steph Hancock, Shenae Ciesiolka, Tara Reinke, are joined in the squad by Ali Brigginshaw, Kezie Apps, Keeley Davis, Leianne Tufuga, and Jessikah Reeves.

The QRL under-17s comp is already done and dusted. Ostensibly state-wide, fixtures are split into SEQ and the regions. 15 teams, 4 rounds, some only playing 3 games. When I suggested on an Aussie forum that this begged a few questions, got a reply - "$ $ $".

Suppose it's a reminder of the size of the place. Our M62 corridor concentration, although a curse in some respects, can be a blessing in terms of logistics and costs. There wouldn't be much appetite to fund a junior girls comp if teams had to fly long distances for many of the games.

Can understand why QRL are reluctant to extend the length of their under-17s season just for SEQ. Would mean girls in Central and North Queensland would have to relocate or miss out. Does however put them at a disadvantage with NSW where the 13 Lisa Fiaola Cup teams playing 9 rounds are all in, or within easy reach of, metropolitan Sydney.

Been waiting to see if anyone posts footage before commenting. We know from POM selections that RL press packs are often mighty impressed when a winger falls over the goal-line three times in the same match.

QRL are not as generous as NSWRL with their highlights packages, but Norths have belatedly delivered.

Verdict is - first try needed scoring, second and third more straightforward.
