Hull City Council...Tree Fellers...

Recommended Posts

A pal constructed a timber bar at the end of his garden a few months back, I managed to source some metal roofing sheets for it. A couple of weeks bago some of these roofing sheets were damaged after they'd been installed.

Here are a couple of before and after photographs...

May be an image of sky and tree

That's his bar roof at the lower right hand side of the photo.

This is the photo after the damage had been caused. You can clearly spot the difference in the two snaps, aside from the damage to the roof, there appears to be some tree felling going on by Hull City Council workmen in the first snap but not the second snap. Also, in the first snap, you can see they will have had a very good view of his roof due to the large branch overhanging it which seems to have disappeared in the second snap.

He contacted Hull City Council who, after asking the workmen about the damage, suggested it had nothing to do with them and must have happened while they were having their lunch.

Righty ho.

Write back and suggest he is going to see who the courts decide are to blame and would they perhaps like to put in a defence?

Your mate should send them a cheque all ripped up, to cover the council tax for the year. Then, as a follow up to each  letter the council send to request a replacement, he can send them an email with a photo of the cheque in one piece as your mate places it in the envelope. Each time they ask for a replacement, send as above, and tell them it wasn't him ripping it up and that he's no idea what is occurring. Keep doing this until they get the message.

Yes i think moneyclaimsdirect is £35 for a sub £5k claim - get a quote for repairs, write back to council telling them having taken advice you are giving them 7 days to respond with why their contractors/employees are not to blame when the evidence is overwhelming before you submit a claim through the small claims court

Copy in the legal dept on the email - it would cost them more to fight than pay up so they likely will (as they do with pothole damage if you can prove the hole was theire for a while or previously reported on something like fixmystreet)
