London - Game 3

I listened to Batley Widnes and apart from the first 15 minutes when Widnes went 2 tries up they were woeful. In the second half heads dropped and you’d question how long the coach has got left. Didn’t see Oldham today but it sounds a half and half performance. Gutsy but soft decision making. We need an injury free run and very strong discipline for the games we can target to win.

Tremendous effort today punctuating by some awful moments which in the end cost us the chance of a sneaky victory. Defence was much improved from last week and even when we were missing tackles we were putting in the right effort and aggression which wasn't the case last week.

Three of their tries were shockers from our point of view with the horrendous drop out, interception and then the failed restart at the end.  Defence out wide still worries me in terms of how many players are flying out of the line and leaving holes for their playmakers to exploit.

Individually Green and Spencer were excellent. Green has impressed in all his cameos so far and he looked very at home at full back. Spencer was the only positive last week for me and he was excellent again constantly punching through their defence. Langtree was excellent with the ball scoring one and setting another up with a huge break. Young Bibby off the bench looked very promising and I think scored a nice debut try.

Hope Dupree's injury isn't too bad. I think that was actually a huge turning point in the game. He would have scored then after beating the full back and we would have been well in the game at 18 -12 with the wind.

33 missed tackles! That looks like it explains why we lost. Also-very few players are averaging decent metres per carry. Darren Bent, whose attitude and effort and tackling are unfailingly immense, averages around 4 metres per carry in each and every game. In all the games I’ve seen on Our League this season he just runs straight into heavier forwards. He’s incredibly fit- can the coaching staff not teach him some better angles of running or sidestepping? Very frustrating to watch.

Tbf Darren Bent would be much better in a 4-4-2. He would have bagged loads for us....had he played RL 🤣

It was in honesty a brave and gutsy performance from the lads, silly mistakes and a lot of the missed tackles resulted from broken field running from London. No Sammut and they probably wouldn't have won. He is a genuine talent and a game breaker. We stood up well, can't fault the effort and commitment. When we get bodies back we will be fine. Dupree was on a scoring run when his hammy went, that could have changed the game for sure had he scored. We are doing it tough with injuries and isolations but credit to the lads for a battling performance. One day we will get a break and wallop someone, more positives than negatives yesterday imho.

Real gutsy performance and I was genuinely heartened after the game.  Thought Chewy had his best game for a while and Spencer never stopped running.  Take away the silly tries by London and we could well have won
