Championship RL and Premier Sports Survey

 CALLING ALL CHAMPIONSHIP RUGBY LEAGUE FANS

In light of the Bulldogs game against Halifax on Premier Sports this evening, I am recruiting participants to complete a short 10 minute survey for my MSc Strategic Sport Marketing University dissertation here

The aim of the study is to critically investigate the impact of this new Premier Sports broadcast partnership on Championship Rugby League Club’s marketing strategy and examine factors contributing to fans’ intentions to substitute mediated Premier Sports consumption for live attendance.

 

The findings are intended to help managers focus marketing activities on addressing the variables and determinants that have the greatest influence on sport media consumption substitution intentions, to subsequently implement more informed strategies to make attendance at live matches an attractive alternative to Premier Sports competition for one of their most important stakeholders - the fans.

Is this arrangement, as before, a simple Championship exposure arrangement or is there cash in it?

A bit of both but the rights revenue from the Premier Sports deal would not be significant enough to outweigh the gate revenue received by Championship clubs which is a primary revenue steam for clubs.

This is one of my main motivations for the study - to understand factors potentially contributing to supporters intentions to substitute Premier Sports for live attendance, so these factors can be addressed to make live attendance more attractive and to ward off premier sports competition.

Has there been any form of research undertaken to ascertain whether PS affects stadium attendance adversely or otherwise?

Unaware of any current research to ascertain this to date so this study will also explore the impact of PS coverage on attendances too
