Ford & Lacans is our 7th different halfback combo in 13 matches in 2023:

Ford-Dean 4
Lacans-Dean 4
Lacans-Wildie 1
Dean-Taylor 1

Dean-Hall 1
Dean-Wildie 1
Ford-Lacans 1

I felt that the Ford and Lacans combo was a lot more successful. Think Dean will mature into the style of Ford therefore they are too much alike together. Lacans is a good defender and more nifty putting the opposition defence on alert though I thought early doors that York coped well defensively. As the game wore on the two half backs began to understand what each other was about to do and Lacans was seen a lot more in the game. Given game time together these two will get the attack working more fluently. Ford showed signs of bringing his A game to proceedings.

One slight issue we have is goal kicking, if Hanks is now unable to do it. Clearly Bussey isn’t really the answer, and with Lacans and Ford in the half’s, we haven’t got the option of Riley Dean kicking. Craig Hall, a stand out kicker, but he doesn’t seem to be first choice in the centres. It’s a puzzle, but which could be an issue in tight matches.

Hankinson did produce an up-and-under at one stage, and I suspect it was just an abundance of caution that led to the decision not to have him kicking goals against York.

Perhaps the most surprising thing about the goalkicking was that when Bussey was off the field for his HIA Dan Smith, not John Davies, was asked to attempt the touchline conversion. Maybe JD is eager to preserve that 100% career goalkicking record!

No further action against Briscoe for the incident involving Fitzsimons. "Player is freeing arm to get up after a tackle. No striking action."

Grade B charge and a £125 fine for Fitzsimons."Kicking out makes light contact but not with head of opponent".

Think that's about right, didn't think either incident merited a ban.
