George & Dragon/bus station, I’d say.

To the corner house on Glebe St/Chadwick St, it is 0.5 miles. To the roundabout on Turner Way behind the North/East Stand it is 0.6 miles. Not exactly a mammoth difference, albeit I’ll accept I’m incorrect by 200 yards (less than that if, as in my case, you sit in East Stand at LSV and entered HP using the Mick Martyn Bar turnstiles!)

As I say Matt, Two pints !!!

Without sounding too pedantic, Silk St is about as close to the Town Centre as you can get.  😉

I didn't think it was right, cheers for clearing it up .

The roof at the Duke St/Willie Horne Way end wasn't removed in 2015. It was earlier than that - I've just looked at Google Street View for August 2014 and it was already gone by then.

I can't remember when it happened exactly (though I have a gut feeling it happened in 2009)- all I can say for definite is it was between March 2009 (Street View shows roof) and August 2014 (Street View shows roof gone).

Carlisle was mentioned earlier in the thread - don’t forget Gillford Park where they moved to in the late 80’s - remember a vintage moment watching Dewsbury win there but best move of the day was Carlisle captain Hugh Waddell making a beeline for the tea bar upon the final whistle, not even waiting to get a shower, but piling into a plate of chips with curry sauce. Happy days!

In December 1993 we were due to play Carlisle away at Gillford park, it was a cold, icy Sunday morning so the coach organiser phoned up to make sure the game was on 'Yes it's on, no issue' was the reply so off we went, stopped at Lancaster services and again phoned and checked as the weather hadn't improved and was told it was still definitely on.

We arrived at the ground for a 2.30 kick-off to find our team coach already there, Alex Murphy was our coach at the time and he was going ballistic as the pitch was frozen solid and obviously not playable at all, the referee called the game off as soon as he arrived and Alex went mad at the Carlisle officials as they knew it was never going to be on but let everyone travel, we were in the clubhouse when Alex came in and apologised to us all, opened his wallet and got some money out and gave it to my brother to get us all a drink with.

After the disappointment had died down we jumped back on the coach and headed to a pub where we literally drank it dry and sang a few songs much to the amusement of the locals, the landlord invited us back for the rearranged game which we kindly took up.

We always popped in after on our visits so were disappointed when Carlisle folded, to this day i can't remember the name of the pub either.

On behalf of locals in pubs everywhere, can I confirm that they were probably not very amused at all.

I don't mean the loud, lary chanting we have today i mean songs, Ilkey moor B'ah t'at, cow bit betty, etc, old fashioned rugby/drinking songs not modern day 'chanting'.

Leigh’s 94-4 defeat to Workington at Derwent Park followed by our coach breaking down was still my best away trip ever.

Broke down outside a pub and got home at 6am.

Great time 😂😂
