Pokemon Go & Rugby League Grounds

Halifax have the shay as PokeGym for Sunday and arguably Manchester Rangers have one being a Sport City for their doubleheader game on the 23rd against Leyland & Culceth (2/4 NWML).

Are any clubs setting up as PokeGyms or PokeStops and getting in on this global craze.

On a serious note I believe its bring footfall in with younger people.

This thread should get plenty of harrumphs from the older TRL members. B)

Even if this doesn't please everyone and even if it doesn't work it's good to see a club trying to engage and attract new young fans.

Does this come under the (mythical) category of marketing...

Its bigger than tinder and is tied to google maps so googles outlay of 30million, which seems a lot, was recouped in one day

So yes its a global phenomenon, even the temple church in London is a pokestop for aspiring barristers at magic circle firms

It gets kids off their backsides and out into the local community - there are heritage trails and all sorts of stuff using it and kids and even adults are all buying into it

Its yet another really good idea that RL should get on board with - with the playing rosters on some teams you could even associate some of the pokemon characters with the character of the players and battle at the grounds on your phone while you watch the match - or even use the grounds as community places at any time of day where you can battle and find new pokemon to collect

its mobile phone based by the way so its now a big thing, its free to do, and its a bit of fun and its HUGE.

If only the RFL had a marketing plan and responsive marketing department like Halifax seem to have!

I don't think you can set gyms up or pokestops, as far as I know, there automatically created based on Landmarks on Google, so sculptures, plaques, churches, sports grounds, prominent graffiti, post office and war memorials etc all seem to get added to the game automatically.

If your lucky enough to be the marketing manager of an RL Ground that finds itself being a Pokestop, then I'd suggest buying some in game Lures, its money well spent for any business!!!

I believe you can request to niantic to become a pokemon or pokestop.

Read a few articles in newspapers suggesting this is the case.

Some one in the RFL seems to have a least one eye open.

from the rugby league.com  website

"Bringing Pokemon Go and Rugby League together? Manchester Rangers' home, the Manchester Regional Arena, will become the ideal place for Pokémon hunters to hunt for new additions, as the club hosts their first-ever community day on Saturday. As part of the day, on Saturday 23 July, the Rangers are turning their 6,500-capacity home ground into the ideal place to find and train new Pokémon for all budding Pokémon Go users. Not only is there a Gym in their car park, there are also two Poké-stops within touching distance of their pitch. Between 12pm and 2pm, each Poké-stop will have a lure module attached to attract the rarest Pokémon into the area."
