Why should he have gone to the video ref, everyone thought it was a try, the crowd did, the players did, the commentators did, the touch judges did and Ganson did.

And Mick, on the match thread, YOU did.

Hindsight, and super slow motion. That's all.

I'm siding with Ganson on this, which I said. It was just revealed afterwards he made a mistake.

I'll hold my hand up Bill, but Ganson still was only a feet away from it and should have seen it.

He doesn't watch the game in slo-mo. FFS Mick the nearest Hull player didn't even protest. You're talking out of your backside with all respect.

That's ######, Ganson saw it clearly as a try, no need to go to the video ref.

Disagree. He assumed it was a try but he shouldn't assume. Tries should only be given without the use of the VR if the ref (or one of his touchjudges) sees it being scored correctly.

Ganson couldn't have seen Cooke ground the ball correctly because Cooke didn't ground it correctly.

Referees sometimes don't use the VR because they don't like to be seen as being dependant on it. And that's going to bite them on the ###### from time to time.

Right it's full time now so I'm off to rewatch it and I'll report back.

As far as Ganson was concerned what he saw was a correct grounding. Again nobody thought any different until Sky played it back.

Every time a ref makes a decision he is making an assumption.

I did. I saw him lose the ball and I was 30 yards further away than Ganson.

In all fairness I`d excuse him for that try. The guy still favoured Wakefield tonight. He looked under pressure all night.

How come not one Hull player, including the one involved in the tackle, who were all a dammed site closer than you asked Ganson to check the video.

After watching the replay of the try for a good ten minutes, which also included myself looking at Steve Ganson's position in relation to where Paul Cooke dropped the ball, which even had me slowing the live action down etc . . . . .

I can categorically say that in my opinion Steve Ganson should have spotted the dropped ball by Paul Cooke as he went to punt the ball down.

He's awarded a phantom try, when the assistance of video replay technology was available to him.

How anyone can defend Ganson after what he's done is beyond me.

I'll finish with he's made a wrong call and that I hope Cummings demotes him to the Championship for next weeks fixtures.

Then he made a mistake and deserves criticism.

Really? If Cooke had gone over the line unopposed and clearly placed the ball down, where would the assumption have been there?

Ganson didn't see him ground the ball and assumed he'd grounded it but got it wrong. I agree with you rebuffing Mick's arguments, but with the VR facility there he should have used it as he hadn't seen Cooke ground the ball.

You'd have to ask them. Perhaps they didn't have as clear a view as I did.

I saw him drop the ball. Shall I get my wife to sign a sworn affidavit to that effect? It's probably the best I could do as I'm not aware of our conversation being recorded at the time.

He does and it's the same referee who always make the same big clanging mistakes.

I was talking to a friend of Steve Ganson's last year and she said that "when he ######s up, it's a big ###### up".

I guess she was right. biggrin.gif

I think people should watch the act of scoring at full speed and not keep harping back to on the replay it was obvious.

Richard, it appears you are calling for all decisions to go to video ref when its available. As far as Ganson was concerned he had seen the ball grounded correctly, if that isn't what he thought he had seen I am sure he is experienced enough to have gone to video.

I go back again to the point that what happened only became obvious some time after the try had been given.

If Ganson had gone to the video ref and it had been a clean try people on here would be screaming how ridiculous it was to go to video for an obvious try.

Ganson, along with many others, thought they had seen a perfectly good try until Sky's editor stepped in.
