  1. The club Instagram says Portadown RU.
  2. Our MP was a volunteer at parkrun today. Unlike our previous two MPs, she didn’t appear to need a PR crew and a map of Hastings to do something in the town.
  3. Community work and player development should certainly be a minimum standard in place before promotion to Super League.
  4. For example, 2001, had an average of around 3,000 and a high of 5,100.
  5. There’s no rant. It’s another example of the current state of the weak RFL leadership and, for those who can see, another example of who gets indulged because they are the right people.
  6. No, there is. There's no plausible deniability that this is anything other than a continuation club - the RFL only spoke with those interested in resurrecting Salford, it did not open it up to anyone else. Thus there is none of Martyn's weepy nonsense about new people being punished. This is the old club in new clothes - hence it has the same fans. Points should be deducted. It is a weakness of those in authority to give in to emotion and trite appeals and not do so.
  7. There’s precedent in rugby league for punishing the new club or new owners. It is the default in all other sports. As it should be. Crocodile tears are not needed.
  8. Lots of teams are called XXXXX County but when Newport football went bust they had to go a few years as just Newport AFC as calling themselves County would have left themselves open to claims from people the former County owed money to as they might fail a test of being a genuinely different company. (I heard this directly from a Newport director. An abundance of caution meant they waited until there was no possibility of that happening before adding the word 'County' to their name).
  9. I saw a slight twist on this today. At London's glittering Copper Box, the Handball Society (a Flensburg based group) put on a workshop for U16 handballers followed by an All Star that featured some actual, genuine all stars (I swooned). In amongst the All Stars were a few British national side first team men and, the interesting bit, two female players. The female players were chosen, it seems, because they would benefit from game time in a "men's" match.
  10. It would be close to unprecedented for someone to get a CBE one year and to then be knighted the next.
  11. Salford have yet to confirm if they are doing printed programmes for the upcoming season.
  12. With all the usual caveats about the honours system, congratulations to them both.
  13. Both codes of rugby have now put in place rules to stop that happening.
  14. I don't see how a men's v women's match ever works without significant gimmickry which would make it more farce than rugby. Mixed tag rugby would seem to be the best model. And I think wheelchair teams are already mixed?
  15. They've been using drop in wickets at the MCG for 30 years.
